Netflix adds new plan for password sharers

CNET Update is streaming movies about Mars:

For those that share passwords with family and friends, Netflix will offer a new plan that allows four devices to stream at the same time.

If you don't care about Netflix and rather not live on this planet anymore, Mars One is looking for volunteers to join a colony on the Red Planet.

If you want to quickly buy a bunch of movies for the seven-month Mars trip, there's now the option to download later on iTunes.

And if you want to eat some good Earth food before dedicating yourself to … Read more

CNET Update is acting totally normal:

If it isn't not odd enough to be wearing a computer on your face, how about controlling it with nods, blinks and air pinching? Some interesting phrasing of code in the MyGlass companion app seems to indicate the Google Glass headset will have gesture controls.

QWERTY Sofa: The comfiest keyboard you'll ever nap on

Have you ever thought to yourself, "Gee, I sure wish I could type with my butt?" No, we haven't either, but that hasn't stopped us from admiring the QWERTY Sofa by Italian firm ZO-loft.

Alas, you can't actually type with it (otherwise you'd probably get something that looked like your cat had been sitting on your keyboard every time you offered guests a seat), but it does look pretty sleek.

ZO-loft says of the sofa:

Samsung Smart Touch Remote and keyboard (hands-on video)

Samsung has unveiled its new flagship control peripherals--the Smart Touch Remote and optional Smart Wireless Keyboard--at an event in New York today.

The new remote will ship with the company's Smart Interaction televisions, the ES7500 and ES8000 LED and E8000 plasma. The keyboard is an optional accessory ($99).

Last year, Samsung was one of the few manufacturers to offer a reversible QWERTY remote and despite Samsung's claims to its popularity at today's press conference, the company has decided to discontinue the peripheral. Instead, Samsung now offers the $99 Bluetooth Smart Wireless Keyboard, which it says will also work with smartphones and tablets.… Read more

New QWERTY flip remote for Samsung Smart TVs

Text entry using a regular TV remote is, more often than not, an agonizing experience. And with Internet use on televisions becoming increasingly popular, this is a teething issue most HDTV makers will have to resolve. An alternative is to provide a free app with QWERTY keyboard support, though this is currently available primarily for iOS and Android devices. Samsung is working around this bottleneck by following in Vizio's footsteps and launching a QWERTY flip remote endowed with a complete set of number and character keys for its new Smart TVs.

Other notable features for the remote include a directional pad, teletext keys, and a monochrome LCD display on an angled brushed-metal shell. The opposite side of this clicker also provides familiar conventional controls such as volume and channel rockers, as well as video playback and recording buttons. The QWERTY TV Remote is included with every premium model, including the LED D8000 and D7000 Series and Plasma D8000 Series. It is compatible with LED series D6300 and up (sold separately for a hefty $99.99 starting next month).

Nokia E7 phone finally hitting stores this week

The smartphone that Nokia has been touting as its new "flagship" business model will finally reach consumers this week.

Following its unveiling last September and a long delay coming to market, the E7 will have a small, initial launch in the next few days, with a broader launch to follow soon, Nokia announced today.

Nokia's announcement was mum on a number of launch details. However, a Nokia representative told CNET that the E7 will be released first in Finland, the company's home turf. She could not provide names of any other countries, just saying that broader … Read more

Friday Poll: Attack of the QWERTY phones

A large number--if not the majority--of the phones we saw at this year's CTIA trade show in Vegas featured some sort of QWERTY keyboard instead of (or in addition to) the traditional T9 numeric keypad most phones have had for years. The HTC Snap and Samsung Impression pictured are just two examples of QWERTY phones.

We think QWERTY might replace T9 entirely within just a few years. As T9 fades into memory and QWERTY becomes the default, a few things might happen. What do you expect to see?

As always, if we missed anything, be sure to let us … Read more
