Battlefield 4 review

Following the critically acclaimed Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 continues the tradition of nonstop mayhem that is the sandbox/first-person-shooter genre. Battlefield 4 has a large selections of weapons, vehicles, and maps and keeps the action coming.

Pros

Bigger arsenal, more customization: With over 100 weapons and 35 vehicles, Battlefield 4 carries an even greater arsenal than its predecessor. Keeping its tradition of load-out customization, the game lets all players find their perfect bread-and-butter setup.

New engine, new mechanic: The Frostbite 3 engine not only brings brilliant graphics clarity to Battlefield 4, but it also lets players level the playing field … Read more

Xbox One Titanfall bundle drops to $449 at Walmart, Best Buy

One of the reasons Sony's PlayStation 4 game console has outsold the rival Xbox One in the early months of 2014 has been the $100 price difference -- $399 versus $499 -- between the two. In mid-March, Microsoft evened the score a bit, adding the exclusive game Titanfall to new consoles as a bundle. Assuming a $60 sold-separately price on the game, one could argue the base cost of the Xbox One was now just $440.

Now, a second wave of price cuts has come to the Xbox One. As noted by the New York Times, two major retailers, … Read more

Xbox One almost catches PlayStation 4 in February

After reporting no sales figures in January, Microsoft is trumpeting its February numbers after a market researcher showed it gaining on Sony's PlayStation 4 in the U.S.

Though the PlayStation 4 (PS4) led hardware sales in February, it was only "by a narrow margin," according to the NPD Group, as reported by Bloomberg.

The Xbox One sold "over 90 percent of what the PS4 sold in terms of unit sales," according to NPD analyst Liam Callahan. But because of Xbox One's higher price, "it led hardware sales on a dollar basis," … Read more

HBO Go, the network's streaming service, will be available on PlayStation 3 later today through a free app, Sony has announced on the PlayStation Blog. Sony is working "diligently" with HBO to get the PlayStation 4 version ready, PlayStation executive Phil Rosenberg said, but there's no release date yet for it.

The HBO Go app, about which CNET earlier reported, will be free to download on PS3 and PS4, but you'll need an HBO subscription from your cable or satellite provider to access on-demand content like episodes of Game of Thrones or True Detective.

Hands-on with The Elder Scrolls Online beta

If there's anything more fun than fighting monsters and casting spells in a sword-and-sorcery setting, it's doing it with thousands of other players in the same game world. That's the appeal of massively multiplayer online (or MMO) games, from EverQuest to World of Warcraft. The appeal for game makers is even more obvious -- the ability to create a recurring revenue stream from monthly subscription fees, on top of an initial game purchase.

But aside from the ever-popular WoW, few massively multiplayer online games have broken through to the gaming mainstream. Even games with built-in audiences, such … Read more

What gaming drought? 7 great games you should be playing right now

I've been hearing it since the new year: "There are no games to play!"

Sure, we seem to have found ourselves in a bit of a lull when it comes to the big blockbuster video game. When I posted what I felt were 2014's most anticipated titles, I may have overlooked the fact that the beginning of 2014 was a bit on the light side for games.

Wrought with guilt that I may have in someway performed a disservice to you fine people, I felt compelled to compile a short list of interactive software worthy of your hard-earned income. The best part? Most of these titles are significantly cheaper than the $60 you're probably used to paying for a shiny new game.… Read more
