HBO Go lands on PS3

HBO Go, the network's streaming service, will be available on PlayStation 3 later today through a free app, Sony has announced on the PlayStation Blog. Sony is working "diligently" with HBO to get the PlayStation 4 version ready, PlayStation executive Phil Rosenberg said, but there's no release date yet for it.

The HBO Go app, about which CNET earlier reported, will be free to download on PS3 and PS4, but you'll need an HBO subscription from your cable or satellite provider to access on-demand content like episodes of Game of Thrones or True Detective.

Sony PlayStation 4 racks up 6 million sales

Sales of Sony's PlayStation 4 have surpassed the 6 million mark after less than four months, according to Sony.

Revealing the latest stats on Tuesday, Sony said that customers have purchased more than 6 million PS4 units globally as of Sunday. That number includes the 370,000 units sold in Japan since the console launched there on February 22.

The latest sales figure shows a steady rise from the 5.3 million units sold as of February 8 and the 2.1 million sold in the first two weeks following the PS4's initial launch in November. The console … Read more

New PlayStation Vita coming to US with Borderlands 2 bundle

PlayStation users in the US are about to have the option of buying a slimmer, lighter handheld console. Sony announced Monday that its redesigned PlayStation Vita is coming to North America this spring.

The Wi-Fi PCH-2000 series console will come bundled with the first-person role-playing Borderlands 2 game, six downloadable content packs, and an 8GB memory card. The whole shebang will cost $199.99. For now, the console will only come in the color black in the US.

PlayStation Vita Slim hits UK on February 7; US release unknown

Sony is trying to give its PlayStation Vita handheld a shot in the arm with a new Slim version. The fresh, slender games machine is already out in Japan, but is making its way to the UK on February 7.

Available to preorder now, the PS Vita Slim is, as the name suggests, smaller than its forebear. That's not where the changes stop, however, as Sony has swapped out the Vita's OLED screen for an LCD panel. Sony confirmed on Thursday that HBO Go is making its way to PlayStation gaming consoles. The app will first appear on PlayStation 3 and then will come to PlayStation 4, according to the entertainment giant.
