Iron Man 3 Live Wallpaper review

Iron Man 3 Live Wallpaper stands out as one of the more sophisticated and interesting wallpapers for Android, but to enjoy its smart features you have to unlock the premium version. The free version has little to offer save for the arc reactor on Iron Man's armor that serves as a battery gauge, turning from bright yellow to red as the battery depletes, and deflects enemy bullets whenever you touch it.

Once you unlock the premium version, however, Iron Man 3 Live Wallpaper becomes exciting. For a start you get a 3D panorama with Iron Man in full armor, … Read more

See 'True Detective' finale crash HBO Go in one chart

HBO Go has long been viewed as a trailblazer in traditional television's move to offer premium video online, but Sunday night it got tripped up just as badly as the other guys.

A week after ABC and Aereo's separate live streams of the Oscars were plagued by buffering and errors, demand for the finale of HBO's "True Detective" series grew so heavy that HBO Go began to fail.

The recurring problems for online viewers trying to access the hottest online video when it's "live" raises eyebrows about whether the Internet and media … Read more

An awesome small room/high-end stereo system

One of the most important factors in selecting the right hi-fi components is room size. If you're lucky enough to have a big living space (over 500 square feet), I'd recommend floor-standing speakers. Big rooms also soak up amplifier power; smaller rooms need a lot less. Here in NYC, most folks live in small apartments, and they'll get terrific sound with midsize bookshelf speakers and small amps.

I was thinking about the stereo/room size ratio question during a recent visit to In Living Stereo, one of my favorite NYC hi-fi shops. I was listening to a … Read more

Microsoft intends to bring Xbox Live to iOS, Android games

Microsoft's Xbox Live hub is one of the most robust, well-developed social gaming spheres out there, and it's about to go more mobile in a big way.

The company is looking into bringing Xbox Live to iOS and Android games, rounding out the cross-functionality of the service and extending it from Xbox consoles, Windows phones, and machines all the way to iPhones and Android handsets, according to a report from The Verge Monday.

The news was originally hinted at in a recent Microsoft job listing that read, "We will create a modern framework that is open-source, lightweight, … Read more

Do you have a problem with clutter?

Are people more obsessed with reducing clutter now than they were in times past? A mastering and recording engineer friend recently told me he was selling off all of his CDs and LPs, and from now on Spotify would be his only music source. I was taken aback by that remark; this man has spent his entire working life making the best-sounding music he could, but from now on he'll be streaming tunes. So I asked if he heard something new on Spotify he really liked, would he buy it? He just smiled and said, "Why?" So … Read more

Scientists capture first super-res X-rays of living cells

Typically, to view super small objects like molecules, the samples must first be dipped in a chemical preservative bath of death that keeps all parts entirely locked in place and thus viewable via very sophisticated tech such as X-ray devices and electron microscopes. The problem, of course, is that those molecules don't behave the same in death as they do in life, so while our current views of life at the nanoscale level are extremely detailed, they're technically speaking views of death, or at the very least, life frozen.

Now scientists at the University of Göttingen … Read more

Mobolive review

Mobolive is a smooth-enough launcher, but its major strength is how developed its marketplace and environment is. It sports plenty of themes, lots of apps for you to download, and so many ways to customize. While you'll have to make some sacrifices to get the most out of it, it's still one of the most advanced launchers available for your phone or tablet.

This app replaces your default home screen and launcher in Android, giving your phone a whole new interface. You can add custom widgets, folders, and apps right on your main screen just as you would … Read more
