Russian police free kidnapped Kaspersky son

The kidnapped son of Kaspersky Lab's founder has been freed and five suspects are in custody in connection with the abduction, according to a Russian media report today.

Russian law enforcement officials freed Ivan Kaspersky, the 20-year-old son of Chief Executive Eugene Kaspersky, through a special operation with company security forces, according to the Interfax news agency.

"He has been freed without ransom," a spokeswoman for the Moscow-based antivirus company told the news agency.

The younger Kaspersky, a fourth-year student of mathematics and cybernetics at Moscow State University, was kidnapped Tuesday morning on his way to work … Read more

Police use GPS, Google Maps to locate missing girl

Massachusetts police used cell phone tracing via GPS and Google Maps to track down a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped by her grandmother, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported on Wednesday.

Police arrested the 52-year-old grandmother at a motel in Natural Bridge, Va., on Tuesday after she allegedly failed to return her granddaughter to the home of her legal guardians in Athol, Mass., the report said. The grandmother had picked up the child for a weekend visit on Saturday and allegedly threatened to not return her, according to the report.

Microsoft's Blue Hat talks start Thursday

On Thursday and Friday, Microsoft will once again gather select security researchers in Redmond, Wash., for its seventh annual Blue Hat talks.

The conference, by invitation only, has gained a reputation for providing Microsoft engineers with a first-hand opportunity to hear from and question leading security researchers.
