Get rid of the annoying blur effect in iOS 7

One of the many new visual effects added in iOS 7 is a blur effect. You have no doubt seen it on a daily basis if you use an iOS device running the latest version of iOS. By pulling up Control Center, or using the keyboard in most apps (especially Messages) you've seen how objects in the background are blurred out by the graphics being layered on top.

It's a neat magic trick, and definitely adds a bit of depth to iOS. But not everyone is going to be amused by seeing app icons or chat bubbles blurred … Read more

Speed up your gaming and Internet experience with GameBoost

Is your older computer struggling to keep up with the latest and greatest games? GameBoost claims to save you from having to boost your hardware by giving you more performance through software tweaks. However, any changes the trial version makes aren't noticeable at all. In fact, the program doesn't boost your computer's power or speed one bit.

The trial version of the program offers most of the performance tweaks for 29 days. The "fastest" performance upgrade isn't available unless you buy, though. GameBoost requires some administrator access to work, which makes you think it … Read more

Netflix earnings today: Moving past last year's Apocaflix

Netflix gets down to reporting some real metrics after the close of trading today, when the Web's top video-rental service is scheduled to issue second quarter earnings.

CEO Reed Hastings caused a stir earlier this month by posting to his Facebook page a note about how Netflix subscribers watched more than 1 billion hours of video via the service. But some analysts have noted that it's difficult to know what that means for Netflix's overall business. A much better measure of the company's health is how many subscribers signed up during the quarter ended June 30. … Read more

Facebook's share price gets a 5 percent boost

It's not quite time to pop those champagne corks yet, but things for Facebook have taken a slight turn for the better as trading closed today.

Although we can't swear that it will work for everyone, it did indeed show a definite improvement for us.

Before we tried Internet Cell Boost we ran a couple of online speed tests to get a baseline for our download and upload speeds. We launched … Read more

Don't call Netflix's CEO 'Greed' Hastings just yet

For those Netflix customers who may be thinking about dumping their subscription in September when the company plans to raise rates as much as 60 percent, here's one more thing to consider: to determine where the company is headed, it might help to look at its past.

CEO Reed Hastings has a long, if imperfect, record of serving customers, which no one else renting movies online can match. For a decade, Netflix has created technologies and features that have continuously provided customers with more and more savings and convenience when it comes to renting movies. How can we forget … Read more
