Huawei drops plan for dual Android-Windows Phone device

Huawei has reversed course on plans for a handset equipped with both Android and Windows Phone.

In a statement sent to FierceWireless on Wednesday, the China-based mobile phone vendor indicated it will continue to support Android and Windows Phone but as separate items.

"Huawei Consumer Business Group adopts an open approach towards mobile operating systems to provide a range of choices for consumers," the company said in its statement. "However, most of our products are based on Android OS, [and] at this stage there are no plans to launch a dual-OS smartphone in the near future."… Read more

Huawei: We like Windows Phone but Android is higher priority

Huawei is still on friendly terms with Windows Phone, but Android is the true object of its affection.

Speaking with blog site TrustedReviews, Huawei Chief Marketing Officer Shao Yang said the maker of mobile devices remains "committed" to making phones outfitted with Microsoft's mobile OS. Last year, China-based Huawei launched the Ascend W1 and struck a deal with Microsoft to sell Windows Phone devices in Africa.

But that commitment isn't quite a top priority.

Chinese wireless device maker Huawei unveiled five new 4G LTE devices at the Mobile World Congress 2014 trade show in Barcelona on Sunday.

Huawei unveils TalkBand B1

BARCELONA, Spain -- Huawei has joined the wearable fray.

The Chinese company capped its presentation at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with the unveiling of its TalkBand B1, a combination fitness tracker and Bluetooth headset priced at 99 euros, or about $136.

Chief Executive Richard Yu called it an integrated Bluetooth headset and "smartband," with NFC pairing and Bluetooth 4.1. Huawei unveils E5786, dubs it 'world's fastest MiFi'

Huawei introduced what it claims is the world's fastest MiFi, the Huawei E5786, on Sunday in Barcelona, Spain, at the Mobile World Congress 2014 trade show.

The new MiFi can connect to LTE networks and will provide download speeds of 300Mbps, the company said. Upload speeds top out at 100Mbps. The MiFi supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.11ac, and it can connect up to 10 devices to the carrier LTE network via Wi-Fi.
