Halo 5 won't launch in 2014, Master Chief voice actor says

Halo 5, the much-anticipated follow-up to the successful Halo 4 from Microsoft-owned 343 Industries, might not launch this year, after all.

Speaking to GameZone in an interview published on Thursday, Steve Downes, the voice of the game's protagonist, Master Chief, said that while a Halo game will launch this year, he "wouldn't expect anything until 2015" on the Halo 5 front.

Downes said that he believes a 10-year anniversary edition of Halo 2 will launch in 2014, according to GameZone.

Although the Halo franchise started with Bungie, that company handed the franchise over to Microsoft in … Read more

The new program is an attempt to lure in more Xbox Live Gold subscriptions by offering two free games per month. New titles pop up on the 1st and 16th of each month.

A first-person shooter, Halo 3 is the third installment in the popular game series. Assuming the role of a supersoldier in the distant future, you battle … Read more

Microsoft plans more TV shows for the Xbox One

Xbox One owners are scheduled to get more TV shows airing on the upcoming game console.

In May, Microsoft revealed an agreement with Steven Spielberg to create a TV show based on the popular Halo game series. But that seems to be just the start.

"We are very close" to announcing similar projects before year-end, Microsoft Studios Vice President Phil Spencer said in an interview in Tokyo on Wednesday, according to Reuters. Microsoft has promised TV content exclusive to the Xbox One unrelated to games, but Spencer believes "there will be a certain level of interactivity to … Read more

Yes, we could build a real-world 'Elysium,' eventually

This weekend, Matt Damon begins his run taking it to the 1 percenters on Elysium on behalf of the rest of us here on Earth -- a futuristic, poverty-ridden hellscape version of Earth, that is.

The film "Elysium" is the latest from "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp and opens Friday across the United States. If you haven't yet found yourself in the firing line of the barrage of promotional materials for the movie, the basic premise is that in the year 2154, humanity is divided between all the poor bastards stuck on an overpopulated, ruined Earth and the rich elite on a huge, halo-style space station where life resembles a stay at an all-inclusive resort.

If you're interested to see how Damon infiltrates Elysium and takes on the man to save his own hide, and perhaps the rest of the next century's 99 percenters, definitely check out the film. But I'm guessing that many Crave readers have already seen the trailers and are more interested in the technology in the film, particularly the giant Stanford Torus space station.

I spoke to Mark Uhran, now retired director of NASA's International Space Station Division who oversaw the assembly of the ISS for seven years, about Elysium and space stations in general.… Read more

Eye-catching LED pet collar fit for 'Tron: Legacy'

Over the last few years, a pack of LED collars have come out and given pet owners some peace of mind in the dark. Speaking as one who has a dog, however, I can safely say these accessories often fall short in the aesthetic and build-quality departments.

Enter the Halo Mini, a bright LED pet collar now making a run on Kickstarter that looks like something you'd expect to see on a digital pooch roaming the alleys in "Tron: Legacy." … Read more

Xbox One reclaims gamer cred with avalanche of title reveals

LOS ANGELES -- So, the Xbox One does play games after all.

After enduring criticism from the gaming community that the Xbox One launch last month was light on the gaming news, Microsoft responded on Monday at a pre-E3 press conference with a torrent of game announcements, including a handful of key exclusive titles, such as Dead Rising 3, and a tease of the next game in the Halo franchise, which will land next year.

In running through a marathon of announcements, Microsoft's message to the gamers was simple: We haven't abandoned you. The company also said the Xbox One would launch in November and sell for $499. … Read more

The hunt for a real (and bigger) Death Star is on

Last month, NASA's planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft suffered a potentially mission-ending malfunction, prompting the eyes of many astronomers and space geeks to grow a little misty. The crippling blow came just as data from Kepler had begun to identify more distant Earth-like planets within the habitable zone.

What's not as widely known, however, is that Kepler data isn't used just to hunt for planets that could potentially support life, it's also been tapped by some intrepid explorers to search for stellar and planetary megastructures created by far-flung advanced societies. Since we've yet to send anything into … Read more

Halo to hit Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in July

The famous Halo game series is making its first assault onto Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in July.
