The move signals a clear, ruthless investment by Google. And when a giant like Google makes a push like … Read more
Sometimes the only proper response to someone on Twitter, or even via Messages, is a GIF. With a proper search, you can find an animated image for almost any situation.
As I've mentioned in the past, managing GIFs in iOS is a pain. Boxie does provide for a simple method of organizing GIFs, but it doesn't help you discover GIFs.
Enter GIFWrapped. This free app not only makes it easy to sync and share GIFs using any one of your iOS devices, but it also gives you the ability to search (and then save) new GIFs. You can … Read more
Muzei Live Wallpaper is a free app from developer Roman Nurik. His name may sound familiar, as he is also the developer of the popular DashClock widget.
Taking the same approach that he took with DashClock, Nurik has made Muzei Live Wallpaper free and open to developers to integrate with various services.
After installing Muzei, you'll have the option to select a service from which the app will pull random images. The default option is featured art, updated once a day. You can also select a photo album on your device, and increase the frequency of your wallpaper changing, … Read more
BlackBerry Messenger users can tap into a potpourri of new features when the app is updated on Thursday.
Slated to reach iOS and Android users, version 2.0 of BBM will bring with it BBM Voice, a way to call your BBM contacts. Already available for BlackBerry OS, BBM Voice gives you the ability to make free phone calls to other BBM users via your Wi-Fi or data connection.
Motorola Mobility's chief executive officer is said to be leaving the company to become Dropbox's chief operating officer, according to The Wall Street Journal. This news comes on the heels of Lenovo's acquisition of Motorola Mobility for $2.9 billion.
Dropbox is a popular online storage company launched in 2007 but to date has not yet had a COO. If Woodside becomes the company's COO, he'll be in charge of working to grow the service worldwide, along with hawking Dropbox's business software in an increasingly more competitive environment, according to the Journal.
Woodside has … Read more
I'm a disorganized person who uses an iPhone and various cloud services to store a variety of files. For someone like me, free app Octonius restores some order to my life. With it, I can search Dropbox, Evernote, and Google Drive from a single spot and share files or groups of files.
To get started, you must provide Octonius an e-mail address to create an account. Then, you can connect the app to your Dropbox, Evernote, and Google Drive accounts. Note: you can connect only one account per service.
Once you have linked your cloud accounts to Octonius, you'… Read more
One of my personal favorite features of iMessage is that it supports GIFs, the animated images that often lend themselves to pranks, or entertaining responses.
But the problem with iOS and GIFs is the way you have to save them to your device. iOS is capable of saving the animated images, only iOS isn't capable of displaying them in the Camera Roll as animated images. Instead you'll only find a single frame of the GIF displayed as the entire image. Quickly figuring out which images are GIFs and which aren't can be frustrating (especially if you have … Read more
Shoots & Leaves is a clever app with a clever title. Odds are your iPhone's camera roll is littered with photos that are not destined for a scrapbook or worthy of being included in your next iTunes sync. If you are like me, then you snap pictures of book covers in book stores as reminders to to investigate them further for potential purchase. Or you snap a picture of an empty ink cartridge so you know which kind to buy the next time you are in Staples. Or you snap a picture of a particularly good bottle of wine … Read more
Investors have poured another $250 million in funding into cloud-storage company Dropbox, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
With this latest round, the 7-year-old company is valued at $10 billion. Investment firm BlackRock led the funding round, unnamed sources told the Journal. Also, two other investors are in discussions with the company, which could bring an additional $100 million to $150 million to Dropbox, according to a report from Recode.
We've contacted Dropbox for comment and we will update if we hear back.
This latest infusion of cash nearly doubles the amount Dropbox has raised from investors. The company … Read more
If you use Dropbox as a large photo repository and like to access your photos from an iOS device, then Unbound for Dropbox for the iPhone or Unbound HD for Dropbox for the iPad is worth every penny. You'll need to plunk down $2.99 for either version of the app since it's not a universal app. Unbound for Mac is also available for OS X for $9.99. I took the iPhone and iPad apps for a spin and found them each to be a fantastic photo manager.
When you launch Unbound for the first time, you … Read more
