App Manager For Droid review

App Manager For Droid makes the removal of multiple apps from your device easier by enabling you to select several for uninstall at once, but lacks other features you'd expect from an app manager. Still, if you have a lot of apps on your smartphone and tablet and need a faster way to dispose of some of them, this app can help.

You won't find App Manager For Droid in the Play Store, so you need to download it from Download.com as an APK file and open it manually with a file manager. After launch, the app … Read more

Pocket Drone: Collapsible, camera-toting copter costs $495

It will be the drone that launched a thousand bad jokes. "Is that a drone in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" To which the answer is, "It's a drone in my pocket. A Pocket Drone."

The small camera-carrying flying machine from AirDroids has rocked its $35,000 Kickstarter funding goal with over $240,000 in pledges and 51 days to go. The appeal is three-fold: the Pocket Drone can haul an action camera (like a GoPro) for taking video from the sky; it folds down into an incredibly compact form for portability; and a ready-to-fly version of the machine goes for a $495 pledge. Add another hundred bucks and you'll get an action camera, as well.… Read more

Review: QR Droid offers you one of the best QR scanners

QR Droid stands tall as one of the premier QR readers because it has a great combination of features and style. It doesn't hurt that the app is easy to use, even for mobile users who have never even seen a QR code. It would be nice if it scanned traditional bar codes like some apps do, but the number of ways it interacts with QR codes is enough.

You can use QR Droid to scan any QR code you find around town or even online to see what link or app it hides. In addition to scanning QR … Read more

Review: Droid - Unblock Youtube unblocks region-locked videos

Droid - Unblock Youtube will unblock region-locked videos, but it takes a lot of trial and error to set up. It requires a root and a completely different app to even get started with this app, and even then it's touch and go. It does eventually work, but not better than a traditional proxy app would.

This app claims to unblock videos that have been region locked in your area. To do this, you need to install another proxy app, and it has to be the particular app that Droid - Unblock Youtube recommends. Strangely enough, the second app … Read more

Verizon serves Android 4.4 to Droid Ultra, Maxx, Mini

Verizon on Thursday announced that the Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini are receiving Android 4.4 updates. The trio of smartphones are among the first carrier-branded smartphones to pick up the most recent version of Android.

As expected, the update adds features such as full-screen mode, color emoji support, enhanced security, and an improved camera. Also included is support for the Fitbit tracker and Motorola's DroidZap 2.0 software.

Verizon took the update as an opportunity to upgrade apps and services like Verizon Tones and Verizon Mobile Security. Rounding things out, the Droids see Google Photo … Read more

White Motorola Droid Ultra coming to Verizon?

An all-white Motorola Droid Ultra might make a debut on Verizon store shelves soon.

The Twitter account for @evleaks on Tuesday published an image of a white Motorola Droid Ultra featuring a Verizon logo. The Twitter account has become a hotspot for leaked mobile devices and, in many cases, the images turn out to be real. Although there's no way to know where @evleaks obtained the photo or whether it's real, its track record means it should be taken seriously.

Currently, Verizon sells Motorola Droid Ultras in either black or red for $100 with a two-year activation.

Battle of the Benjamins: Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini vs. Droid Mini, HTC One Mini, iPhone 5C

Although you can't deny the popularity of flagship handsets, manufacturers aren't shying away from offering devices that are just one notch down from their highest tiered smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, for instance, recently landed on Verizon and Sprint (with plans to reach AT&T and U.S. Cellular customers soon). It costs $99.99 on contract, though with temporary rebates and deals, Sprint is offering it for free to new customers only. The device features many of the things users love about the Galaxy S4, but in a smaller, slightly less powerful package.

Likewise, Motorola … Read more

Motorola readying 6.3-inch Xplay and Droid Quantum?

Motorola could be ready to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and other phablets with a 6.3-inch device of its own. According to a "trusted" Weibo source, the so-called Moto Xplay is in development with an estimated arrival in 2014.

That Motorola is working on such a device should come as no big surprise. Nearly every handset maker has gone beyond 5 inches for at least one model, with phones like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra hitting 6.4 inches.

Motorola, for its part, has done well with balancing larger displays with small(er) bodies. Take … Read more

Smartphones with long battery life (roundup)

Smartphones are the Swiss Army Knives of the tech world.

They're cell phones, music and video players, mobile Web browsers, and personal organizers, among other things. Not surprisingly, all this can take a toll on battery life, and when you depend on your smartphone for so much, the last thing you want is for it to run out of juice when you need it most.

Generally speaking, with moderate use, smartphones can give you a full day's performance before needing to be recharged, but not all gadgets are created equal -- some simply run out of steam early, whereas others will hang in there for the long haul.

Below, you'll find six smartphones (in no particular order) with battery usage that really impressed us, whether it was because they scored well in our lab tests for battery drainage, or simply because their usage time stood out from the crowd of humdrum cell phone batteries we encountered (and believe us, we encounter a lot). Give one of these devices a try if you're looking for a phone that packs some decent juice.

Motorola, Samsung top smartphone repairability ranking

DIYers, listen up: if you want to fix your smartphone, consider picking up an Android-based handset.
