Date online? You're probably a sexter too

Despite the potential repercussions of exchanging explicit content, sexting is becoming increasingly popular among adults, and online daters are guiltier than anyone of the uncensored behavior, according to the Pew Research Center's newest report on couples, the Internet, and social media.

The research group determined that 9 percent of cell phone owners have sent a suggestive picture or video, while 20 percent have received one. The act of sending a sext is up 3 percent year over year, while being on the receiving end is up 5 percent since Pew's previous survey in 2012.

Meanwhile, the behavior of … Read more

Teen charged with child porn for allegedly tweeting nude selfies

Can the law offer education?

This might be the question that follows the tale of a 16-year-old Virginia girl who has found herself in more trouble than she ever might have imagined.

It all started when the teen allegedly decided to take some nude selfies and post them on Twitter.

She's certainly not the first to sext. But, as far as the police see it, her case warranted a charge of distribution of child pornography.

As WAVY-TV reports, police say that because she left nothing to the imagination, this constitutes child pornography.

Some local parents wonder how it can … Read more

Sext much? If so, you're not alone

Former US representative Anthony Weiner wasn't the only one to get hooked on sexting -- apparently, nearly half of all US adults' smartphones contain sexy photos or texts.

A new study released Tuesday by security software firm McAfee titled "Love, Relationships, and Technology" details just how many people send risque photos or intimate texts to people they know or strangers.

McAfee online security expert Robert Siciliano wrote in a blog post that a number of adults share "private details about their lives, including those of an intimate nature such as nude photos and sexts -- all … Read more

Sexting teen convicted of child pornography

At what point is it possible that hurtful, juvenile attempts at humiliating a fellow teenager can be defined as child pornography?

A court in Canada seems to have taken a very firm attitude in the case of a teenager from Saanich, British Columbia, who was in possession of naked images of her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend and disseminated them.

As CBC News reports, a judge in Victoria, BC, offered a literal interpretation of the teen's actions.

It didn't matter that her boyfriend had voluntarily shown her the pictures. It also didn't matter that there was little age difference … Read more

France turns nose up at sexting (the word, that is)

The English language is invading the world even more than the English ever did.

Native tongues find themselves at the mercy of phrases invented by nerds and donated to humanity.

The French, however, have always tried to defend their culture. They take it seriously -- so seriously, indeed, that their Ministers of Culture usually have a knowledge of their departmental subject matter.

It's no surprise, therefore, that France's Academie Francaise -- the nation's last line of linguistic defense -- has turned its disapproving eye on sexting.

No, not the practice. Just the word itself.… Read more

Does Missouri topless mom case prove Snapchat is pointless?

Honestly, they're talking about nothing else in Wentzville, Mo.

A teenage girl took a picture of her mom and her 14-year-old sister in the family's hot tub. Both were topless (although how topless is the subject of much conjecture. No nipples were allegedly visible).

As KMOV-TV reports, the mom says she told the daughter taking the shot to delete it.

Instead, the daughter allegedly propelled it on Snapchat.

This resulted in severe fulmination and the mom being charged with child endangerment.

"It sure appeared that the picture was posed and it certainly had some sexual overtones," … Read more

Teacher suspended after stolen nude pics appear online

People take nude pictures.

There are many reasons for this, only some in the area of titillation.

One teacher at an Ohio school, however, seems to have been made an example of solely because her nude pictures fell into the wrong hands.

The unnamed teacher was suspended by the Cincinnati Christian Hills Academy because her private nude photos appeared in a difficult place.

As WCPO-TV reports, the teacher reported her iPhone 4S stolen the day after the photos were seen on a revenge porn site. For those who might have missed this phenomenon, a revenge porn site is used by … Read more

BrdsNBz service lets teens text sex questions to a hotline

Oh, the birds and the bees. Not so long ago parents and kids alike would typically dread having "the talk" in all its analog, face-to-face glory. And while search engines have taken a load off in recent years, kids can get a lot of bad information -- or just run into a lot of porn -- if they ask their sex-related questions online.

So New Mexico has decided to join North Carolina in launching a free texting service called BrdsNBz that targets teens and their parents. The service promises that, within 24 hours of someone texting a sexual … Read more

Karen Finley wants to turn your sexts into art

Do you consider yourself a sexting master (or mistress)? If so, artist Karen Finley wants u, u sexy beast.

Finley -- a well-known and sometimes controversial performance artist -- is planning a series of paintings inspired by sexts. The works will be displayed later this month in New York's New Museum as part of an interactive installation called "Sext Me if You Can."

If you're wondering how that beloved cleavage shot would look like on a canvas above your couch, be advised that not just any of your favorite sexy missives or nudie pics will do.

Interested sexters will be asked to pay between $200 and $500 for a 10-minute private, anonymous on-site sitting during which they'll get access to a private phone number created expressly for sending Finley sexts. The message will, in turn, serve as the inspiration for a painting, or series of paintings, created by the artist in a temporary studio set up in the New Museum lobby and displayed from May 23-26. … Read more
