Maytag's Performance washers and dryers are known for the long list of standard features, but they're getting one more: a Fresh Hold Option. The new technology prevents clothes from smelling like mildew, even if they sit in the washer a little while between the end of the wash cycle and moving over to the dryer.

This full-size dryer from Maytag handles full loads with a large 7-cubic-foot capacity drum. Physically larger than similar models, the Bravos MED6300TQ has a width of 29 inches by a depth of just more than 30 inches. The height is almost 4 feet, measuring 42 inches, but considering similar smaller models offer height extenders or pedestals for their dryers to sit on, this might actually be an ideal height.

Radiant heat cooktops are safer

When I was first learning to cook, I left a dishtowel a little too close to a burner. At some point, partly through boiling water for spaghetti, the dishtowel caught fire. I've been party to enough similar incidents over the years that I can't help but think that cooktops using radiant heat are a great idea.
