Sprint creates mobile security alliance

Sprint Nextel said today that it has formed a mobile security council to answer the growing threats to its customers and their smartphones.

The charter members include major technology players like IBM and Cisco Systems, security providers such as Lookout, and handset vendors Samsung Electronics and Motorola Mobility. Curiously, the group doesn't include Google or Apple, two of the major players in the wireless industry, nor does it include the other national wireless carriers.

Mobile devices increasingly bridging work, personal lives

SAN DIEGO--If you still can't use your own iPhone or Android smartphone for work, things may be changing.

At least, that's the intention of a lot of companies who gathered here this week for the CTIA Enterprise & Applications conference. One of the bigger themes of this year's show was getting businesses to jump on the "bring your own device" bandwagon.

Android to get enterprise friendlier

Android smartphones and tablets are getting ready to go to work.

3LM, a unit of Motorola Mobility, is ready to release a set of enterprise-grade security and management tools to a number of Android phone manufacturers.

The tools allow corporate IT departments to integrate Android devices into their systems. It also makes it easier for individuals to take their personal Android phones and tablets and use them for work.

Motorola Mobility buys security provider 3LM

BARCELONA -- Motorola Mobility announced today that it has acquired Three Laws Mobility (3LM), which provides security software for Android smartphones targeting the business and government market.

Terms of the deal, which was completed late last year, were not disclosed. The news comes on the first day of the Mobile World Congress 2011 conference here.

The acquisition will enable Motorola Mobility to begin selling device management services in the second quarter of this year, according to Motorola Mobility, which split off in January, said.
