Argos Monitoring review

Argos Monitoring is a program designed to track all activity on your computer, so you can see exactly what everyone using the machine is doing. The program operates in complete stealth mode, and there's no way to access the control panel without the master password.

Totally hidden: This program operates completely hidden from anyone who doesn't know it's there. There is no record of it in any index another user could access, and the only way the control panel shows up is if you type in your master password and press "Enter." You can … Read more

Shut down quickly with Flash Shutdown Free

For most people, shutting down or restarting their computer is as simple as going to the Windows Start menu and choosing the desired option. If you'd like to make these tasks even easier, though, try Flash Shutdown Free. This simple utility allows users to create hotkeys and desktop icons for specific shutdown tasks, making them even quicker to access.

Sick PC? Call the PC Doctor

Kingsoft PC Doctor is a free bundle of system protection and maintenance utilities. It includes tools to clean, protect, and optimize your browser, operating system, registry, and data. It's by Kingsoft, a Chinese software company, and some of the documentation seems to have been translated by machine. For instance, the software offered to scan our system to "find out what damage your PC health." We're always leery when we see glaring errors in translation since they're so easy to avoid and suggest a lack of attention to detail that can show up in more critical … Read more

Too basic tunes

Eufony Free Audio Player provides a simple device for listening to MP3s. While it sounds fine and functions well, we were unimpressed with this program's unoriginal layout and features.

We had a bad feeling about this program from the beginning as its interface looks more like a file-tree window than a media player. It's not difficult to operate, it's just that we expect more from a player than it delivers. We were able to scroll through our digital music collection via the program's onscreen file tree and cherry-pick songs or select entire albums to play. The … Read more

Worthless astrology program

MB Scorpio Astrology Software provides a detailed look at the supposed characteristics of people born under the Scorpio star sign. Although the program does provide a lot of information, it's not very well-written, and we don't know that it's particularly accurate.

The first thing that concerns us about this program is the fact that it doesn't really need to be a program at all. It doesn't do anything. There aren't even any buttons to push or options to select; the program requires no user input whatsoever. All it does is give information about the … Read more

Simple aromatherapy definitions

MB Aromatherapy Dictionary Software provides an impressive collection of terminology related to the study and practice of aromatherapy. With a simple layout and easily interpreted definitions, this program succeeds.

The program's interface took us no time to understand. With the functions of a dictionary cut down to the bone, there is nothing to see here but a list of words and the definition. This was fortunate because the online Help file provided an all too brief description of the program and nothing more. The program had hundreds of terms listed in alphabetical order, which allowed us to scroll down … Read more
