Rumored Amazon phone: Six cameras, summer launch?

Here we go again. New reports online today suggest that the long-rumored Amazon smartphone is finally close at hand.

According to tech blog BGR, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a note to clients that "Amazon (US) will launch its own brand smartphone in 3-6 months, using the same hardware strategy as used for its e-reader and tablet." For those keeping track at home, this would put it on the market roughly two years after the first rumors copped up.

HTC Sense 6 interface appears in video leak

With roughly one week until HTC formally unwraps its next-gen the new HTC One, more details on the smartphone have leaked.

This time, instead of dealing with hardware details, the leak du jour focuses on the software experience. More specifically, we're looking at the Sense 6.0 custom interface.

A video which surfaced today (embedded above) shows a redesigned interface featuring a stripped-down approach, with "flat" icons and a new design language.

Apple's rumored Healthbook app could break new ground in the area of health and fitness tracking.

Reports of Healthbook have previously popped up, but new information and recreations of screenshots of the app from 9to5Mac reveal Apple's ambitious plans for the app.

Healthbook would be able to monitor many of your vital stats, according to 9to5Mac, including heart rate, blood pressure, weight, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and blood sugar. It also reportedly will track your bloodwork, hydration, physical activity, nutrition, and sleep.

Apple rumored to launch 8GB iPhone 5C

Apple may aim to shake up the smartphone market with an 8GB iPhone 5C, according to several new reports.

Citing information from two German blog sites and its own tipsters, MacRumors said on Monday that the 8GB phone will reportedly hit the market this week, possibly as early as Tuesday. Available in the full gamut of 5C colors, the 8GB version would be the new entry-level iPhone model, said MacRumors. Apple currently offers the 5C in 16GB and 32GB variations.

iPhone 6 may include sensors to detect the weather, says analyst

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. And Apple's next iPhone may feel it just like you do.

Expected to arrive this year, the iPhone 6 could come equipped with its own barometer to automatically detect the temperature, humidity, and air pressure, according to ESM-China analyst Sun Changxu. In a report covered by blog site G for Games, Chagxu cited "sources close to the matter" as responsible for this latest tidbit.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom details allegedly come to light

The camera-focused Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom, a variation on the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, could feature a 20-megapixel rear camera and a hexa-core processor, according to new benchmarks.

Thanks to details first discovered by Italian site Webtrek.it, we're getting a clearer picture of what to expect in Samsung's image-centric handset.

LG's upcoming G3 could have a 2K display

Slowly but surely, pieces of the LG G3 puzzle seem to be falling into place. Rumors point to a May debut for the device, which means that the pace of rumors should quicken over the next few weeks.

Apple patent application hints at future health-related plans

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has published a new patent application from Apple focused on fitness.

Dubbed "Wrist Pedometer Step Detection," the patent application describes "optimizations for detecting steps" for when a pedometer is worn on the wrist. AppleInsider earlier reported on the patent.

Although pedometers are nothing new, Apple's method for detecting steps is actually somewhat sophisticated. The technology analyzes "peak-to-peak threshold" to determine when a person takes a step. Apple reportedly eyes iTunes Radio as separate app in iOS 8

iTunes Radio could split off as its own separate app for iOS 8.

Apple is now testing its music service as a standalone app for the next version of iOS, according to 9to5Mac, which cited "sources briefed on the plans." The idea is that Apple could feature and market iTunes Radio more readily as its own app than as an option tucked away into the iOS Music app.

U.S. Cellular may push cheaper data plans this month

U.S. Cellular will soon offer customers more data options, according to a leaked company document picked up by Droid Life.

Set to take effect on March 13, U.S. Cellular's shared plans could provide a bigger buckets of data for the same price. The $40 plan reportedly bumps data from 300MB up to 1GB while the $50 option doubles the 1GB pool to 2GB.

On the higher end of the spectrum, the $60 plan increases from 2GB to 3GB. U.S. Cellular will also introduce an entry-level plan with 300MB of data for $15 per month.
