Xbox One to hit 26 new countries in September

The Xbox One will go much more global six months from now.

Microsoft said Tuesday that in September, the Xbox One will arrive in 26 additional countries, including India and Japan but especially across a broad swath of Europe.

Xbox Chief Product Officer Marc Whitten leaves Microsoft

Marc Whitten, the chief product officer for the Xbox division, is leaving Microsoft after more than 17 years.

Whitten is leaving the software giant to become the chief product officer at wireless company Sonos, the company announced in a statement Monday afternoon. Whitten's departure comes about four months after the release of the Xbox One, the long-awaited successor to the Xbox 360, and about a week after the high-profile launch of the first-person shooter game Titanfall on the new console.

Microsoft's launch Tuesday of the much-anticipated game Titanfall on Xbox Live has not been without hiccups.

Players hoping to access the first-person shooter game on Xbox Live are having difficulty connecting with the online gaming service Tuesday. The Xbox Live Service Status page currently lists service as "limited."

Microsoft is making a strong push to attract new gamers with help from Titanfall, the highly anticipated first-person shooter.

The company on Monday announced that starting March 11, it will sell an Xbox One Titanfall Special Edition Bundle for $499. According to Microsoft's Larry Hryb (better known as "Major Nelson"), the offering will only be available in "limited quantities."

Xbox One owners will soon be able to buy a Media Remote to handle the entertainment on their consoles.

Slated to arrive in early March, the Xbox One Media Remote will let console users direct the playback of Blu-ray discs as well as streaming video, Microsoft said on Thursday. Dedicated Back and OneGuide buttons will offer access to TV shows and movies listed on the Xbox One's program guide.

Xbox One hit by black screen bug

A new update for the Xbox One didn't quite go smoothly.

Many Xbox One users who downloaded the latest update say their screens now go black when they press the Xbox Button on their controllers. A number of them commenting on both the Xbox One support forums and Reddit's Xbox thread report that the audio remains alive even as all screen activity goes dark.
