AT&T Moto X sees Android 4.4.2 update

Motorola and AT&T have commenced the Android 4.4.2 software update for the Moto X smartphone.

Available immediately, the update brings the handset current with the latest and greatest of Google's mobile operating system. As is the case with the other carrier-branded versions of the Moto X, Android 4.4.2 KitKat includes native cloud printing capabilities and improved battery life.

The new release also includes a bug fix to address email sync delays and a patch for data connectivity issues when roaming outside of the United States.

Republic Wireless rolling out KitKat for Moto X, reactivations for older devices

Big day for Republic Wireless. First, the company announced plans to offer the Moto G smartphone on its low-cost, no-contract service.

Now, Republic is rolling out a highly anticipated update: Android 4.4 (KitKat) for the Moto X. That will bring the handset alongside Motorola's own, unlocked version of the Moto X, which has been receiving KitKat updates via the major carriers during the past month.

Sprint approves KitKat update for more Samsung smartphones

Sprint on Wednesday confirmed plans to issue Android 4.4.2 updates to a number of Samsung Galaxy devices.

According to a post on the carrier's blog, the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Mega, and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 are in line to receive KitKat updates. As a result, the mobile gadgets called out will benefit from features such as enhanced messaging options and a more intuitive interface. Sony this week commenced the Android 4.3 update for a number of Xperia smartphones. Effective Thursday, the Sony Xperia T, TX, V and SP are finally picking up the most current release of Jelly Bean.

Jelly Bean spills onto 60 percent of Android devices

Android Jelly Bean continues to flavor more Android devices.

Analyzing Google Play data from the seven days ending Tuesday, Google's Android developer dashboard pegged Jelly Bean's collective reach at about 60.5 percent. Breaking down those beans, 4.1.x held the highest share with 35.5 percent, followed by 4.2.x with 16.3 percent and Android 4.3 with 8.9 percent

AT&T subscribers who own the HTC One X should get ready for a dose of Android 4.2.2.

In a message tweeted late Monday, an HTC executive said that AT&T has approved Android 4.2.2 for the HTC One X and aims to launch the over-the-air update on Wednesday.

Android 4.4 KitKat starts to hit Galaxy Note 3

Owners of the international version of Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 should expect Android 4.4.2 KitKat to flavor their phablets before too long.

The latest version of Android for the Note 3 has already begun showing up in Poland, according to blog site Sammobile, where users must download and install it via Samsung's Kies software. An over-the-air variant is expected to appear as well.

Evidence that Nokia is working on an Android phone is mounting. First, we got a glimpse of the hardware, codenamed Normandy, and today we're getting a first look at the software and operating system that will run on this rumored device.

Verizon serves Android 4.4 to Droid Ultra, Maxx, Mini

Verizon on Thursday announced that the Motorola Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini are receiving Android 4.4 updates. The trio of smartphones are among the first carrier-branded smartphones to pick up the most recent version of Android.
