Samsung gets it mostly right with the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3

The 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is the latest example of the company's weird pricing decisions. At $300, the Tab 3 is expensive for a small tablet that -- aside from its 1.5GB of RAM -- has fairly modest specs and hardware features.

In the "small tablet" space -- 7- to 9-inch screen sizes -- great models are more affordable than ever. The Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, Fire HD 8.9, Nook HD, and Nook HD+ are all available for $269 or less. Of course, one reason they're so affordable is that they're … Read more

T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 925, Xperia Z go on sale July 17

T-Mobile announced on Wednesday that it will begin selling the Nokia Lumia 925 Windows Phone device and the Sony Xperia Z Android phone on July 17, for $49.99 and $99.99 down, respectively.

The Lumia 925 represents T-Mobile's first 4G LTE Windows Phone device, and it also happens to be Nokia's latest global model, with a camera that boasts a sixth lens to improve clarity in outdoor shots.

T-Mobile's no-contract pricing plan means that you'll pay $50 up front and $20 for the next two years, for a grand total of $530 when all's … Read more

Three Galaxy Tab 3 tablets coming in early July

On July 7, Samsung will release no less than three new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets in 7-, 8-, and 10.1-inch screen sizes.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 ships in July for $199 with a low-res screen and a paltry 8GB of storage

Based strictly on its pricing and specs, there's very little about the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 to get excited about.

The 7-inch tablet will debut on July 7 for $199. Preorders start June 25. While $199 is the going acceptable rate for 7-inch tablets these days, from particularly a specs perspective, this one fails to match key 7-inch tablets from last year.

With the Galaxy Tab 3, $199 nets you a paltry 8GB of storage and a tablet screen with an unfortunately low 1,024x600-pixel resolution. That's a few hundred thousand pixels behind the Nexus 7 and … Read more

For Galaxy Tab, odd Samsung-Intel partnership emerges

Samsung is putting an Intel chip in an Android Galaxy Tab. That's unusual.

As CNET reported back on May 20, Samsung is slated to disclose -- either privately or publicly -- the next Intel-based Galaxy tablet at Computex, which starts June 4. It will run Android 4.2.2 and sport a 1,280 x 800 display.

What's odd is that Samsung is a chipmaking giant in its own right and considered an Intel rival in Android mobile devices. For example, its Exynos series of chips power the Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy tablets.

But it may have good … Read more

Over the next few weeks a new tab workflow will be slowly introduced to the Web, iOS, and Android versions of Gmail.

While iOS and Android users have to wait for app updates to hit the respective stores to get the new Gmail, there's a chance your Gmail account on the Web already has access to the feature. It's a quick process … Read more
