Apple plans NY event this month, report says

Apple is reportedly planning to hold a press event this month, but don't hold your breath that it's to unveil the iPad 3 or rumored Apple TV set.

The tech giant is expected to hold an important media-related event later this month in New York, sources described as "close to the situation" tell AllThingsD.

However, the sources caution that the event is not large-scale and is not related to the iPad 3, the next generation of Apple's popular tablet that is widely expected to be released some time this year. DigiTimes reported late last month … Read more

Facebook's events feature gets suggestive

Facebook has a new feature that aims to help out with your social life when away from its confines.

A new feature, called suggested events, began rolling out to users this afternoon. It provides users with a list of events they may want to attend, even if they were not explicitly invited.

According to TechCrunch, which picked up on the feature, the events that show up in the new menu are pulled from past history, including check-ins, as well as pages that have been liked. Events that Facebook friends are planning to attend are also thrown into the mix. All … Read more

MTV Awards tops Twitter's 2011 tweets per second

As 2011 draws to a close, Twitter has given us a snapshot of what events in the past 12 months seemed to have captured our interest the most.

Twitter's version of the Year in Review lists prominent events throughout the year along with the tweets they generated per second worldwide on the microblogging site.

It may surprise you to learn that the October 6 death of Steve Jobs was not No. 1 in per-second tweets; indeed, it didn't even make the top 5. Its 6,049 tweets per second were about a 1,000 shy of the per-second … Read more

Alongside the formal launch of that service, Google is expected to unveil deals with most of the big record companies to sell digital music downloads from those catalogs. Purchased tracks can then be accessed from both the Web and on mobile devices, including those running Google's Android operating system. Social features could let users share purchased tracks with their friends via Google+. … Read more

How to quickly navigate to future events using the iOS 5 calendar app

If you're an avid iOS 5 calendar user, this tip is for you. A beautiful detail in the iOS 5 calendar app allows you to quickly scroll to future or past dates to make your app usage more efficient.

Once again, Apple's attention to detail, especially when concerning the user experience, shines through. For anyone who uses the calendar app on their iPad on a regular basis, scrolling to different dates in the future (and the past if you need to look up a former event) can be laborious.

Not to fear, Apple has you covered. To quickly … Read more

Photo Event Organizer sorts your snaps for you

Photo Event Organizer takes a unique approach to organizing your digital snapshots: it scans your images and automatically organizes them based on the day they were taken, called the Event. Events don't have to be a big deal--"that day you took a bunch of pictures" will do. But the idea makes sense since folks tend to snap a lot of pictures on birthdays, dates, at ballgames, and other events, then plug in their USB cable and and upload the lot to one big archive, sometimes even one big folder.

While Photo Event Organizer's compressed file … Read more
