Apple's iPad Air has proven popular among shoppers, according to a recent study.

The iPad Air notched 41 percent of all iPad sales in the US in the quarter ended December, according to data released on Monday by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). That's down slightly from the 43 percent share the iPad with Retina scored in December 2012.

Intel CEO talks delayed factory, 'Broadwell' production start

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich discussed the start of the next-gen Broadwell chip, the delay in the startup of its Chandler, Ariz., factory, and new tablet chips during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call Thursday.

China Operating System sets sights on iOS, Android

China Operating System, or COS as it's become known, is poised to take on foreign-born operating systems that are gaining control in China.

That's the word from China's Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which, along with the Chinese government and company Shanghai Liantong, announced COS on Thursday to customers across the country.

China has long taken issue with American-based companies such as Apple, Microsoft, and Google controlling its software market. Samsung's much-rumored Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is no longer a rumor.

Following a surge of recent leaks, the so-dubbed lighter version of the full Galaxy Tab 3 was finally announced by Samsung on Thursday. Many of the features match those of the current Tab 3, while others have been removed. Overall, Samsung is touting the new Lite edition for its "slimmer, more portable design."

Sharp's taking the high-pixel-density road with a new 16-inch-class Windows 8.1 tablet.

This could be the year of the large tablet and Sharp just chimed in with a 15.6-inch model with a 3,200x1,800 (WQHD) display and a Core i5-4200U processor.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 Lite continues to get exposure ahead of any official announcement.

A user manual for the allegedly upcoming tablet now appears on Samsung's Polish Web site. The Web page displays a model number of SM-T110, which reportedly refers to a Wi-Fi-only variant of the Tab 3 Lite. Indeed, the manual itself explains how to set up Wi-Fi access but offers no information on how to establish a cellular connection.

The iPhone and iPad are chart-toppers among criminals as well as consumers.

The New York Police Department recorded more than 8,000 thefts of Apple's mobile products last year, The Wall Street Journal said late Sunday. That number is more than 18 percent of all the grand larcenies reported to the department in 2013. In comparison, there were only 25 grand larcenies involving Apple products recorded in 2002, a year after the first iPod debuted.
