When I told friends that I was interviewing in-demand drummer Matt Sorum, I kept getting the same response: "Find out what he's actually like." The stick master is best known for keeping the beat for the Cult, Guns N' Roses, and Velvet Revolver, but he shows his softer side on his second solo album, "Stratosphere," out February 25 under the moniker Matt Sorum's Fierce Joy. The follow-up to 2004's "Hollywood Zen" is a highly personal, orchestrated acoustic album. Sorum writes about the important things in life, like family and environmental and … Read more
Ziggurat is an 8-bit-inspired survival game for iOS, set during an alien apocalypse. It's the project of Action Button Entertainment founder and director Tim Rogers, a Bay Area transplant recently nominated the Most Interesting Man at PAX Prime, and a regular contributor to geek-centric content farm Kotaku.
The story: Aliens have just wiped out humanity, and you are the last man standing. Literally standing: You're atop a ziggurat, above the clouds, armed with one BFG-like firearm, making a last stand. You shoot by tapping, charge by holding the lower portion of the screen, and fire when releasing. The … Read more
If you've hated the Android app store, or just wanted more Android app options, Pokki has an app for that -- and you.
The alternative Windows app store has launched on Android and two-in-one devices, the company announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The update to the store, described as "recommendation technology," supports Android for the first time, along with multimode devices, a growing category of Windows computers as Windows 8 enters its second year.
Evidence that Nokia is working on an Android phone is mounting. First, we got a glimpse of the hardware, codenamed Normandy, and today we're getting a first look at the software and operating system that will run on this rumored device.
The first images of the company's Android user interface were leaked by frequent Twitter tipster @evleaks. The images show a series of three design mockups of a what appears to be heavily-modified version Android on a Nokia device, but it's not clear that this operating system is in fact Android.

Facebook has acquired Indian startup Little Eye Labs, the social network's first acquisition of a company in that country.

Although few details were shared on the Little Eye Labs site, the company said that its entire team will be moving to Facebook's Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters. The Little Eye Labs team plans on using its … Read more
LAS VEGAS -- Samsung may be crafting a visually rich smartphone interface, according to frequent Twitter tipster @evleaks.
The panel of three screenshots clearly shows a visual take on the Android UI for the smartphone lock screen, and two home screen panes, complete with the iconic Gmail, Google Play, and Samsung Hub icons with a smear-effect background in deep blue and purple hues.
The graphical treatment of the voice search icon, weather, and location (San Francisco's Mission District) are clearly new.
The lock screen, for instance, displays a map route and estimated journey times. The map appears again on … Read more
LAS VEGAS -- Go ahead, call 2014 the year of the phablet. ZTE is certainly continuing to experiment with screens spanning 5.5 inches or larger, launching the 5.7-inch ZTE Iconic Phablet at CES 2014.
Now, it may seem a little presumptuous to call your own phablet "iconic," especially when the handset in question is a midrange device like this. The Iconic certainly looks nice. In fact, it's one of the most premium-looking smartphones we've seen out of ZTE.
A solid slab of aluminum (yes, real aluminum) makes up most of the back panel, with … Read more
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks' sixth release, "Wig Out at Jagbags," was worked out "on a computer on someone else's table in someone else's apartment" in Berlin and a studio in rural Belgium, but it sounds as casual, lived in, and American as a vintage Polo sweater. Grab the album (iTunes/Amazon) on January 7, and get tickets (Live Nation, StubHub, eSeats) for their upcoming U.S. tour, which kicks off February 12 in Denver.
Download.com caught up with the indie rockfather, following his return to the U.S., while he was out … Read more
