Grand Theft Auto V now at large amid billion-dollar expectations

At long last, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V is on store shelves. And before long, the game could prove extremely popular, according to some analysts.

Grand Theft Auto V will post 14 million unit sales worldwide by the end of this month, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter wrote in a note to investors on Monday. Overall, Pachter thinks Rockstar's hit title could reach 24 million unit sales over its lifetime, helping the franchise potentially generate more than $1.4 billion.

RW Baird analyst Colin Sebastian is similarly bullish on Grand Theft Auto V's chances of success. In a … Read more

Grand Theft Auto V lives up to hype, steals its car, sets house on fire

I'm trying to put into words how difficult a situation it is attempting to summarize my thoughts on a game that I've been playing for only two weeks when I know in the back of my mind Rockstar Games has been hard at work on Grand Theft Auto V for more than four years.

With such a lengthy development cycle comes a proportional amount of hype and expectation, and I'm not sure there has been a title with so much of a single medium's weight resting upon its shoulders.

If there's one thing you need … Read more

Amazon launches Grand Theft Auto V too soon in the UK

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has gotten off to a somewhat troubling start.

Amazon's UK store shipped out copies of the title early, allowing those who preordered the title to get their hands on the game days before its official launch. According to the BBC, which was first to report on the mistake, not all Amazon preorder customers got a copy of Grand Theft Auto V early, but some did.

Although gamers who received the game early were happy to find it waiting for them at their doorsteps, it has caused a world of hurt for those who … Read more

Leaked Grand Theft Auto V map shows off its mind-blowing scale

Rockstar Games' highly anticipated fifth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, which hits shelves Sept. 17, has been hyped for the mind-blowingly massive environment it will let players parachute over, sky dive into, or fly and drive across. The studio has touted the game as being larger than the previous two GTAs and its Western title Red Dead Redemption combined.

It turns out that's no joke. … Read more

Watch a giant duck tear it up in GTA IV

GTA V is due to hit in just a few more days, on September 17. While we were twiddling our thumbs waiting, though, we stumbled across a rather unusual GTA mod.

Made by a modder known as indirivacua on YouTube, it replaces the main character with a giant duck. Not just any giant duck, though. This giant duck has a posse -- consisting of an ostrich, a zebra, a tiger, and a polar bear. And it can blow stuff up just by glowing at it. And dance a fancy jig. Kind of. … Read more

Grand Theft Auto V features real-life gangster voice-overs

Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V is far more realistic than originally believed.

Speaking to Chicago radio station WGN recently, Grand Theft Auto V's contributing writer "Lazlow" Jones revealed that the game developer allegedly brought in supposed "real-life gangsters" to record the voices for characters in the game.

"We get these guys in to record the gang characters because we don't want a goofy L.A actor who went to a fancy school trying to be a hard gang member," Jones said to WGN Radio. "There's nothing worse … Read more

Sony apologizes for weekend GTA V leak

Over the weekend, a digital file of the yet-to-be-released Grand Theft Auto V was made available via the Europe PlayStation Store to people who had preordered the game.

While the file wasn't a full version of the game -- there appears to have been no gameplay involved -- it was quickly decrypted and a number of spoilers emerged, including a full list of music tracks for the title.

The file has now been removed from the store, and Sony's social media manager Sid Shuman issued the following statement on the company's official PlayStation blog: … Read more
