After upgrade hiccups, Alcatel will skip Firefox OS 1.2

The Alcatel One Touch Fire, one of the inaugural phones to sport Mozilla's Firefox OS, won't get version 1.2 of the browser-based operating system -- but it will get 1.3.

That's the word from Mozilla and Alcatel. And although it's an inauspicious start for the browser-based operating system, it's likely a relief to those who feared Firefox OS 1.1 would be the end of the line. One unpleasant aspect of low-end Android phones is that they often don't get OS updates, but Firefox OS hasn't been around long enough to … Read more

How to manipulate multiple tabs in Chrome or Firefox

If an Internet research session sends you down a rabbit hole, by the time you resurface you can be staring at dozens upon dozens of tabs open. Chrome provides the ability to move and close multiple tabs natively, while Firefox extension Multiple Tab Handler provides this functionality and much more.

In Chrome, you can select multiple tabs by clicking on tabs while holding down the Ctrl key or select … Read more

Get alerted when someone unfriends you on Facebook

Unfriend Notify is a free extension available for both Chrome and Firefox that alerts you when someone has unfriended you on Facebook. Addictive Tips originally covered it as a Chrome extension, but as it turns out by visiting the extension's Web site, you'll also find a Firefox extension.

Without an extension such as Unfriend Notify, there isn't a straightforward method to discovering who has deleted you as a friend on Facebook. The only two methods available from Facebook directly are to browse through your friends list and try to figure out who is missing, or you can … Read more

Mozilla: In 2014, all your hardware belongs to us

Soon, you'll be able to get your hands on a Firefox OS tablet -- but only if you promise to develop for the fledgling operating system.

Launched last year on three smartphone models in 14 countries on major carriers such as Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom, Mozilla has partnered with hardware maker Foxconn to build tablets for Firefox OS developers in 2014, the company announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday.

The unnamed developers' tablet is "not intended" for the average tablet owner, said Andreas Gal, Mozilla's vice president of mobile.

Internet Explorer 11 continues to catch on with Web surfers.

Geeksphone makes the Intel switch with Revolution phone

Yup, the upcoming Geeksphone Revolution, a handset that'll run either Google's Android or Mozilla's Firefox OS, uses an Intel processor.

Specifically Geeksphone Revolution will employ a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor when it ships in the first quarter of 2014, the Spanish company said Friday. The company teased the Geeksphone Revolution in November, with one employee hinting that it had Intel inside.

Geeksphone is hardly a name-brand manufacturer, but Intel needs any help it can get in finding customers for its mobile processors in a market dominated by ARM chips from companies such as Qualcomm, Apple, … Read more

First 3D game built in ASM.js hints at future of Web-based gaming

The new online game Monster Madness may look like many of its 3D competitors, but the fact that you can play it in any browser without a plugin makes it something of a gaming unicorn. Unlike that mythical animal, however, there are plans to ensure that Monster Madness is only the first of many.

Monster Madness (click to play), which debuted on Thursday as a pre-alpha for gaming enthusiasts from Trendy Entertainment, is the first game coded in C++ and then brought to the Web using the JavaScript language subset ASM.js, the JavaScript compiler Emscripten, and the Web port … Read more

Firefox for Android ups its game in version 26

You can now swipe between Bookmark, History, and Reading List screens when you open a new tab -- as you already can with Opera and Chrome.

Tapping the upper-left corner now cues a slide-out menu that holds your opened tabs, similar to Windows 8's functionality. The final noteworthy bit that users will notice is the curve-in to the … Read more
