Garmin's upcoming connected GPS portable navigation device (PND) has been revealed via FCC application. Model number 01102291 or the Nuvi 1690, as it is referred to in the publicly available document, features GSM, GPRS, and EDGE connectivity for data. Voice calls won't be supported by the device's cellular connection, but its included Bluetooth connection and your connected mobile phone will fill that gap.

"Simple, yet effective" is probably the best way to describe Garmin's entry-level Nuvi 205W GPS device. This unit doesn't pack a lot of bells and whistles and focuses on getting the basics right, delivering a user experience that's easy for your chronically lost grandma to use.

This one almost slipped under our radar, but a recent firmware update to Garmin nuvi 7x5 series, nuvi 800 series, nuvi 8x5 series, zumo 660, GPSMAP 620 and GPSMAP 640 GPS devices caused the units to shutdown, lose satellite reception, or become locked in a firmware update loop.
Garmin has released a free firmware update for the affected devices that should fix these issues. For more info on how to update your unit, check the Garmin Blog.
Volkswagen and Garmin have teamed up to create Click & Ride, an integrated GPS system made exclusively for VW vehicles. The system is based on the Garmin Nuvi 7X5 Series of portable navigation devices and features a cradle that connects the device to the vehicle.
