Peeking in the window for Apple WWDC clues

SAN FRANCISCO--With Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference just around the corner, CNET News.com made its traditional trek over to Moscone Convention Center to make sure the Cupertino crew didn't need any help setting up.

Apparently, not, as a helpful security guard was quick to remind us that our presence was neither requested nor appreciated (his words were less diplomatic and more of the threatening variety). Thankfully, Apple has chosen a venue made up almost entirely of glass, so we were able to snap some pictures from outside the convention hall (see attached gallery).

iPhone on the way

If you read any of the Mac news sites, you probably already know the official release date for the iPhone is June 29. With the release only three weeks away, Apple has been ramping up the hype with three new commercials showing more of the iPhone's features.

I have to admit, for my part, the hype is doing its job. The latest group of ads show off the versatility of the iPhone using a number of its features together. My favorite is the one entitled "Watered Down." In this ad, you get a brief look into what it's like to surf the Internet using Safari on the iPhone. The point of the ad is to show how the iPhone doesn't give you a watered-down version of the Internet like other devices; you get to browse actual Web pages, zooming in on the stories you want to read. Apple will include ZFS in OS X Leopard, Sun confirms

We've heard rumors for a while that Apple's forthcoming Leopard operating system will use the next-generation file system called ZFS.

Now it seems to be official. As MacRumors.com notes, Sun Microsystems' Jonathan Schwartz said on Wednesday that ZFS would be "the file system" for Leopard, succeeding HFS+.

Engadget sends Apple stock plunging on iPhone rumor

Millions of people, from hardcore computer geeks to high-finance Wall Street martini drinkers, hang on every word related to Apple. Sometimes, that can have consequences.

Engadget posted a story Wednesday morning at 11:49am ET claiming that Apple was about to announce another delay of Leopard, the next version of Mac OS X, as well as a delay for the iPhone, perhaps the most hyped gadget of all time.

'Top secret' features holding up Leopard?

A day after Apple pinned Leopard's delayed release date on the push to get the company's iPhone out on time, some reports floated the idea that "top secret" features in the operating system could be responsible for the postponement.

An AppleInsider report today quotes American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu as telling clients that "while Apple cited a shift in resources to iPhone and more time for developers to beta test as reasons for the delay, our analysis indicates that if not for the 'secret' features, the core Leopard operating system would likely have shipped … Read more

Apple delaying Leopard until October

For once, the rumor mill was right: Apple will be delaying Leopard, the next release of Mac OS X, until October.

The company said in a statement Thursday that because of the push to get the iPhone out by June, it had to pull engineers from the Leopard development effort and reassign them to the iPhone. As a result, Leopard won't be finalized until later this year, and only a preview version will be available at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Another report of Apple's Leopard in June

Add ThinkSecret to the list of outfits predicting a June launch for Leopard, the next version of Mac OS X.

The latest report says Apple will formally launch the new OS in June, in or around Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference kicking off on June 11. Apple used last year's conference to highlight several features inside Leopard, and might just use this year's to launch the OS and take the wraps off some "secret features" hinted at by CEO Steve Jobs last year.

Rumor: Apple TV to put OS X desktop on your HDTV

The Leopard update of Apple OS X will be able to wirelessly transmit the Mac desktop to any HDTV that's connected to an Apple TV box--at least, that's the word according to LoopRumors (as spotted on Digg).
