Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2014 Review

Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security is the second-highest antivirus offering from Trend Micro. In addition to a robust malware scanner, Titanium Maximum Security offers a built-in password manager, an in-app Web browser, and a packaged set of tools for protecting and managing your Android device. This review focuses on desktop performance.

Pros

Design: Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security shares the same interface as its lesser brothers, the Antivirus and Internet Security editions. The interface has a clean, organized menu layout. Panda Cloud Antivirus review

Panda Cloud Antivirus is a free antivirus program that uses the cloud to scan for malware and viruses on your computer.

Pros

Powerful scanner: Thanks to its cloud-powered scanner, Panda Cloud Antivirus can divert much of the heavy lifting to its servers. The antivirus program has consistently scored high marks in the AVComparatives protection tests, sitting in the top five with a 99.7 percent protection rate.

Lightweight: Panda is easy on the eyes and on the system consumption. There's very little to distract you, as there aren't many meaningful viral expositions for each scan result.

Cons

Bundling: … Read more

McAfee Antivirus & Security review

McAfee Antivirus & Security brings a new level of security and features to Android device protection. In addition to basic antivirus, privacy, and Web security, McAfee can also back up your device as well as lock or unlock it or even wipe data remotely. It helps you find your device if it's lost or stolen with geo-location and CaptureCam, which e-mails the administrator (that's you) photos of whoever was holding your phone and a map of their location.

Pros

Easy to use: Help, tutorials, and support draw on McAfee's long experience in cyber-security. It scanned our phone … Read more

Avast Free Antivirus for Mac review

Avast Free Antivirus for Mac scans for viruses and malware in the OS X environment.

Pros

Robust scanner: Avast Free Antivirus offers scanning at both a threat and a warning level, meaning you can scan your machine either for immediate threats or for potentially unwanted applications. In addition, Avast allows you to scan individual files via drag and drop rather than making you navigate to each file's location. You can split results to display infections only or to list potentially unwanted items.

Native-friendly design: Avast Free Antivirus looks like a native OS X app. The left Finder-like organization makes … Read more

Popular antivirus tools for OS X tested, again

Recently Mac security researcher and analyst Thomas Reed put to the test a number of popular antivirus tools for OS X, to see which perform the best for detecting known malware threats for OS X. This effort follows similar assessments done by Reed in past years, but has been repeated to characterize the fluctuating nature of not only new malware threats, but also the effectiveness of scanning engines as they receive software updates and new malware definitions from their developers.

In his testing, Reed found that the top malware scanners for OS X include the following (in no particular order) … Read more

Security suites jockey for position on Windows 8.1

Independent security testing firm AV-Test.org released its first Windows 8.1 results earlier this week, showing that, once again, most security suites are capable, but not great, at protecting you from threats.

AV-Test spent most of 2013 focusing on testing security suites on versions of Windows prior to Windows 8. The company's January and February tests showed that top-rated suites on Windows 7 generally performed well on Windows 8. The new Windows 8.1 tests saw similar results.

The new tests compared 24 suites during November and December 2013 on Windows 8.1 with no default security features … Read more

The latest update to Avira Antivirus adds Online Essentials, Avira's Web dashboard, a more approachable, more modern, and more encompassing way to manage security across your devices.
