The quickest way to close all open Safari tabs in iOS 7

When iOS 7 launched with a redesigned Safari tab interface, we showed you how to manage open tabs. But one thing we missed that should have been obvious was a workaround to closing every open tab at the same time. Have you ever tried swiping away 10 or 15 tabs? It's an exercise in frustration, to say the least.

Thanks to a tip posted on Mac OS X Hints, the process of closing all tabs can be done in just a few taps.

Launch Safari and view your currently opened tabs. Instead of swiping each open tab away on … Read more

Meet the LTE-capable Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 S (hands-on)

BARCELONA, Spain -- You'd be hard pressed to tell the Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 S apart from its twin the Idol 2. The only clue is at the bottom of the phone, where the speaker grilles are located -- the 2 S has more holes. And if you have the eyes of a hawk, the 7.4mm-thin 2 S is 0.1mm thicker.

That said, the Idol 2 S packs better specs that makes it feel more like a premium device than the Idol 2.

While they come with the same brushed metal design and similarly-sized 5-inch IPS … Read more

Design-wise, the Idol 2 Mini S is very similar to the Idol 2 Mini and sports a metallic finish in bright, vibrant colors. The handset runs on a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, and is powered by Android 4.3. Unlike the Idol 2 Mini, the 2 Mini S is promised an update to 4.… Read more

Hands-on with Alcatel's metallic Idol 2

BARCELONA, Spain -- The sequel to last year's Alcatel One Touch Idol is the Idol 2, a 5-inch Android handset sporting a beautiful premium metallic design in a slim 7.3mm frame.

While Samsung has been stuck in a plastic cycle since forever (though the upcoming Galaxy S5 may change this), other handset manufacturers have tried to win our hearts by using premium materials in their handsets. The Idol 2 uses this approach with a brushed metallic finish that feels sleek and polished in the hand. A quick caveat though -- I noticed the "metal" bands around … Read more

The Alcatel One Touch Pop Fit is a 2.8-inch wearable phone (hands-on)

BARCELONA, Spain -- Announced alongside the company's Idol 2 range of Android-powered handsets is the Pop Fit, a 2.8-inch "wearable" handset designed for fitness buffs. While it may not have the fastest specs (and feels decidedly low-end in specs), the handset does have a few things going for it.

For a start, since it's designed for exercise, the phone comes with the RunKeeper app pre-installed. It's also meant to be a music player, and comes packing either 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage.

The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 Mini is smaller and prettier (hands-on)

BARCELONA, Spain -- The Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 Mini and its faster LTE-enabled twin, the Idol 2 Mini S, are smaller versions of the just announced Idol 2 phone. Sporting a similar metallic finish, the Idol 2 Mini, however, comes in more colorful shades -- such as hot pink.

Specs-wise, the Idol 2 Mini has a slim 7.9mm-thin figure with a 4.5-inch, 960x540-pixel display. I quite like the size -- it fits comfortably in my palm, and the metallic finish feels cool.

The handset's powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, and I found performance to … Read more

How to retrieve iCloud Keychain passwords on iOS

With iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks, Apple introduced a new feature called iCloud Keychain. The feature aims to help keep your online accounts more secure, and at the same time speed up the amount of time it takes you to enter your log-in credentials on certain sites.

In an effort to help you keep accounts secure, Apple helps create account passwords when you're setting up a new account or changing a current account password in Safari. The password is saved to your iCloud account, retrievable by another Apple device with iCloud Keychain enabled.

Should you need the password … Read more

Does it still make sense to buy an iPod Touch?

This post started out as an iPod Touch deal: Walmart had the refurbished fifth-gen Touch (32GB) for $179, the lowest price I've seen for that model and a whopping $120 less Apple charges for a new one.

Alas, it sold out before I finished the third paragraph. Which is okay, because I wanted to have a discussion about the product anyway: Does the iPod Touch still have a place in the world?

Because, think about it, it's really the only remaining product of its kind (not that it ever had a lot of competition). Put simply, it's … Read more

Samsung hints at new TouchWiz design for Galaxy S5

Samsung's Galaxy S5 is expected to debut on February 24 at an event dubbed Unpacked. Now Samsung is teasing new features that may pop up in the new smartphone.

The latest image touting the event displays a series of icons for different categories, notably Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness, and Life. The categories themselves may point to new apps or at least a stronger focus on areas such as fitness and privacy. But it's also the design of the icons that seems to reveal a new direction.

The icons sport a flat and unadulterated appearance, … Read more

Can a casual numbers game be fun? You bet it can

Threes is part math and part matching game as you slide numbers to make multiples of three while trying to get the highest score possible. At first blush, it doesn't seem very exciting, but once you hear the music and sound effects and get into the flow of the game, it can be incredibly addictive.

What's amazing about Threes is that it came out only one day before this review, but it's currently sitting at No. 1 in the paid app listings at the App Store. I think once you start playing and get to know the … Read more
