Mozilla to sell New Tab page ads in Firefox

Ads are coming to Firefox's New Tab page, browser maker Mozilla announced on Tuesday.

Revealed at the Interactive Advertising Bureau's annual leadership meeting in Palm Desert, Calif., Mozilla said that the ads are part of an attempt to connect new browser users to sites that they might find relevant.

Called Directory Tiles, the initiative will use a combination of sponsored sites, popular sites based on geographic location, and Mozilla ecosystem items to fill in blank New Tab pages. Currently, the nine empty boxes on a new New Tab page fill in over time with sites culled from the … Read more

Asus VivoTab Note 8 goes on sale at Microsoft Store for $329

The Windows 8.1-based Asus VivoTab Note 8 has gone on sale for $329. The trouble is, it's already out of stock.

Microsoft started selling the tablet on its online store over the weekend. The device, which was shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show last month, offers an 8-inch HD display and runs on Intel's Atom processor. The "Note" in its name comes into play, courtesy of an included stylus.

The Asus VivoTab Note 8 is in direct competition with Samsung's Galaxy Note line, which also includes support for a digital stylus. The trouble … Read more

Hey, business users, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro could be your next tablet

With its Galaxy TabPro 12.2, Samsung takes direct aim at Microsoft, the Surface 2, and the productivity tablet market. Thanks to its huge bounty of business apps, the TabPro can easily challenge the Surface 2 as the best ARM-based productivity tablet and may even be able to surpass it.

It's taking a slightly different trail than Microsoft's to get there, and though I haven't spent nearly enough time with the TabPro just yet -- look for a full review later this month -- its appeal as a business tablet is crystal-clear.

Chrome provides the ability to move and close multiple tabs natively, while Firefox extension Multiple Tab Handler provides this functionality and much more.

In Chrome, you can select multiple tabs by clicking on tabs while holding down the Ctrl key or select … Read more

Chrome: Save tabs to a pop-up window with Tab Killer

Admit it, you are as guilty as me when it comes to leaving tabs open -- sometimes for days at a time -- as temporary bookmarks in order to read or watch something later. These tabs make your browser a mess and occupy system resources. There are many tab managers but Chrome extension Tab Killer might be the easiest of the bunch to use, which means you might actually use it. It's not the most polished extension you'll come across, but it solves the problem it sets out to address and does so with minimal fuss.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite outed by user manual, retailer

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 Lite continues to get exposure ahead of any official announcement.

A user manual for the allegedly upcoming tablet now appears on Samsung's Polish Web site. The Web page displays a model number of SM-T110, which reportedly refers to a Wi-Fi-only variant of the Tab 3 Lite. Indeed, the manual itself explains how to set up Wi-Fi access but offers no information on how to establish a cellular connection.

An online Polish retailer has apparently gone a step further by listing the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, both the Wi-Fi and 3G editions, on its Web … Read more
