Xbox One almost catches PlayStation 4 in February

After reporting no sales figures in January, Microsoft is trumpeting its February numbers after a market researcher showed it gaining on Sony's PlayStation 4 in the U.S.

Though the PlayStation 4 (PS4) led hardware sales in February, it was only "by a narrow margin," according to the NPD Group, as reported by Bloomberg.

Comcast to offer 'House of Cards' to Xfinity customers

Comcast Xfinity customers will soon be able to watch the first season of "House of Cards" without need of a Netflix subscription.

The series comes to Comcast courtesy of a deal announced on Monday with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that gives the cable company rights to sell the initial season, Variety has reported. Though Netflix holds the streaming rights for "House of Cards," Sony is in charge of distribution internationally and through home video.

"House of Cards" will make its debut in the Xfinity Store by mid-April, according to a Comcast spokesman.

Sony, Panasonic unveil Archival Disc for long-term digital storage

Sony and Panasonic have teamed up to provide a new option for those looking to leverage long-term digital storage.

Starting next year, the companies will offer the Archival Disc, a high-capacity disc capable of storing 300GB of data. Over time, Sony and Panasonic plan to improve the offering, upping its storage to 500GB and then 1TB.

According to the companies, the Archival Disc will be a write-once, dual-sided-recording media. The companies, which worked together to get Blu-ray off the ground, say that the effort is a response to growing data-recovery needs and the relative reliability of disc media.

Sony PlayStation 4 racks up 6 million sales

Sales of Sony's PlayStation 4 have surpassed the 6 million mark after less than four months, according to Sony.

Revealing the latest stats on Tuesday, Sony said that customers have purchased more than 6 million PS4 units globally as of Sunday. That number includes the 370,000 units sold in Japan since the console launched there on February 22.

The latest sales figure shows a steady rise from the 5.3 million units sold as of February 8 and the 2.1 million sold in the first two weeks following the PS4's initial launch in November. The console … Read more

Sony looks to shed former Tokyo headquarters -- report

Sony is edging closer to ditching yet another building.

The company has entered into an agreement to sell its old headquarters in Tokyo for $146.5 million, Yhe Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the deal. The building, in central Tokyo, was the company's headquarters from 1990 to 2007. It's now home to the company's medical operation and other ancillary operations.

BARCELONA, Spain -- You would think Sony's mobile executives would be even a little nervous.

Sony to shutter 20 stores in US, implement staff cuts

Sony will close some stores in the US as part of its restructuring efforts, the company said Wednesday.

To "maintain its competitiveness in an evolving consumer electronics market" Sony announced the closure of 20 US stores.

That includes stores in California, New York, and Florida, as well as other locations.

Sony also made a statement about staff cuts.
