"nasty pop-up boxes in Firefox and Chrome"

    January 11, 2013  |   By ubat

Worked OK (used only occasionally) in its proposed function

Two months after I installed it, nasty pop-ups began to appear in both Firefox and Chrome -- all kinds of ads and even a computer scan to accelerate Windows. I checked configs in both browsers (both were set to kill pop-ups), freaked out, ran a system scan with Norton. Nothing helped, and I couldn't figure out where these pop-ups were coming from. I finally decided to check my installed programs, and chose to uninstall 7-Zip. All pop-ups ceased immediately.

If you can live with all kinds of pop-ups in your browsers...

Been using 7zip for 6 years? NEVER had this problem. You should check the source where you got it. Seriously, have installed this compression utility on at least 400 machines from XP to 2003 to Vista to 2008 to Win 7 to Win 8.

I REALLY think if your claim had merit, I would have stumbled upon similar findings.
