Version: 7-Zip 4.42
Pros: What I really like about 7Zip is the number of extensions it supports. It can handle .zip, .rar, .7z and anything else that you can throw at it. The interface is nice and clean though not as jazzy as one would expect. That is forgivable when you notice that the size of the package is less than 1MB. The compression/decompression speeds are excellent and help is fairly comprehensive.
Cons: Newbie's would find its interface a little difficult to get used to. It isn't exactly the best thought out design. And couple that with no skin support and no newbie guided mode or wizard.

"Highest compression ratio for everything. Just play with settings."
Pros: 7zip has higher compression than rar. It has higher dictionary and other options so it can compress to incredible small sizes. I dont know why it is not spread so widely among users but there is time...
Cons: If you dont have very fast pc, dont try big dictionary sizes and ultra compression options because it can consume large amounts of memory and cpu while compressing.

Version: 7-Zip 4.42
"Excellent compression + CLI for automation"
Pros: Excellent compression ratios. Exceeds about everything else out there including WinRAR. Makes decent sfx files, though WinRAR is better at this. It's open source and secure with AES256 passphrase encryption from GUI or CLI.
Cons: 7-Zip File Manager is weak compared to WinRAR and WinZip, but it is open source and is getting better with each release.

"Piece of cake to use ... Awesome!!"
Pros: I had to unzip a *.tar.bz2 file. I had no clue how to do so. I looked around on the web but did not see any quicky solution. I came here to download.com and saw 7-Zip. I tried it. In literally seconds I was done!!
Cons: Do not know of any at the moment.
