"A free software that just works without faff-n-fuss."
Version: 7-Zip 9.22 beta
Pros
It's free! (Great for uni student like me without resorting to torrenting similar program, which is banned)
Compatible with most compressed file formats.
Does the same job as paid program like WinZip.Cons
Interface can be a bit confusing and the one-click compression option is not worded to be easily understood for newer users.
Summary
Download it and get it on your CNET watchlist.

I have only used it once but, I gave it to a teacher that works with me here at the school and she loves it.

I have not seen any cons other than the user interface. It's basic and it works.

"Not worth the penalty - see below"
Version: 7-Zip 9.22 beta
Pros
It does what it says on the label
Cons
On updating to 7-Zip 9.22 beta my Firefox default home page (Google) was hi-jacked by a spurious search engine 'http://geti/7z' which cannot be overridden by trying to reinstate Google as homepage! This is diabolical!! How do I get rid of it?
