Version: 7-Zip Portable 4.65 Rv 2
"Powerful; Fast; Easy to Use & Portable"
Pros: It's easy to select which folders and files to compress and encrypt (and easy to extract and decrypt files). I only used the 7z format and had no problem with it. It runs as an .EXE file so it doesn't leave stray files.
Cons: I would have liked more basic instructions since this is the 1st file compression app I've tried. I worried I might accidentally encrypt my original files (I've ruined files trying out other encryption programs). Extra notes for novices would help.
Summary: Based on using this application for two days, I'm so pleased with it that I decided to post this review. I'm using PeaZip to select and encrypt many files and folders at once for uploading to Microsoft's SkyDrive online storage (part of Microsoft's WIndow Live -- free to anyone). Since SkyDrive only lets me upload 5 files at a time, PeaZip saves time. I can combine many files at once into one archive file and encrypt (and compress) it at the same time. Sending dozens of files in one archive file is much easier than uploading the original files one by one.
I'll be using PeaZip on flash drives as well since it runs as an .EXE file. It unzipped to 6.2MB, so it doesn't take up too much space.
In the past I've used Remora to encrypt my flash drive files. While Remora works well, PeaZip has more options and is now my favorite encryption program with the added benefit of file compression. Using the PeaZip program, it's easy to see and manage files within an encrypted/compressed archive. It also has the option of changing file names for people who want more secrecy. I haven't tried that option yet, but it looks straightforward.
As a novice, I was initially intimidated by so many unfamiliar options and terms in PeaZip. However, I had read that 7z is a great format for archiving files so I focused on that format only (and may use the ZIP format later if I need to share files). I don't have enough experience to comment on the other formats. By trusting the default settings for the items that I didn't understand, it worked well for me. I ignored all the instructions pertaining to command lines and only used the most obvious menu options (for example, browse, add, extract -- encryption is under the options button). For advanced users, it looks to me like you'll have a lot of choices and control over your archives.

My review is on the wrong page (my fault). This belongs on the PeaZip page. Sorry...
