"Unimpressive"
Version: 3C Texas Holdem Poker 7.1
Pros
It does have some nice 'real poker' strategies, such as the bluff. Beginning and average players can benefit from this game, which will be the majority of those playing it.
Cons
Way too much going on onscreen - too distracting. After a little play time, I was able to 'read' the AI players fairly consistently, but that can lend to it's predictability, a major downfall of almost all poker simulations.
Summary
Not a 'bad' game, it's just not a poker sim I would play for free and certainly not for pay. No real challenge. Game play seemed to be 'disjointed', not smooth. I like to use the 'GOP' series of sims as a benchmark for comparison when evaluating a new poker game and unfortunately, this one falls well short of that standard. I want a game that 'flows', one that doesn't take much effort to play, and I just never felt comfortable playing this game. To paraphrase from an earlier comment, did I say unimpressive?
Hmmm...Since posting my review of 3C Texas Holdem Poker 5.1, I've gone back and read the comments from the publisher, the staff at CNET and the other reviewers - probably the best way to give an honest review - but I find that they mostly contradicted with what I had to say. I now feel that to be absolutely fair in my review I will reload the game again and give it another look and some serious game time. If I am allowed another update on my original post, then I will put out the results of this 'second look'. Sorry for the 'back and forth', but I honestly wish to be as objective and as fair as possible.
