BB FlashBack Express

Version: 1.5.3 build 151

Better than any other in price range, but...

Pros: I downloaded like 35 of these programs (or something like that, including at least one open source program), and this one was simply superior in performance and CPU-efficiency. There might be some other good ones in the $200 USD range, but not down where this one is, in price.

Cons: Have had some crashing problems with 10 minute recordings, the SWF formatted files created are very inefficient (taking several hundred MB of RAM to play!, and I'm talking about a window recording, not a movie or anything like that), and the AVI files created are not fully compatible (regardless of codec chosen, they are problematic). Also, the registered version (which is what this whole review is based on) displays an advertisement for the more expensive version when starting... which I feel is very rude and disrespectful being that I paid for this program.

Desktop Screen Record

Version: 5

Rip-off of open-source program

Pros: Well, it's an alright, though CPU-inefficient program... but...

Cons: This is obviously a rip-off of the open-source program, CamStudio 2.0, available at camstudio dot org. They might very well have taken the open-source code, changed the names and are trying to sell it. I highly recommend that you check out the aforementioned program, CamStudio 2.0, before downloading this.

ZD Soft Screen Recorder

Version: 1.5

Pretty CPU efficient, but problematic

Pros: CPU efficient, simple user-interface that's quick to fully figure out.

Cons: Doesn't use the audio input source you specify (you need to change it manually in Windows while it's recording), Does something weird with audio input driver, making some audio programs not work right while recording. And Now for the worst part: After uninstalling the program (and restarting system as asked), the stupid "Video Graphics Accelerator" driver it installed (viewable in Device Manager under "Display adapters") is still there and the "Uninstall..." function has been removed... Hopefully I can somehow manually get this junk off my system. I would have given it 2 or 3 stars, but leaving drivers installed with no option to remove them is very unacceptable.

NetworkActiv AUTAPF

Version: 1.0

Extremely high performance and mad reliability.

Pros: Extremely high performance, mad reliability, easy to use, lightweight, and I can run it without installing (you can just use the downloaded file!).

Cons: As far as what I need it for is concerned, there are no cons.

IrfanView

Version: 3.95

Highly convenient and full of useful features

Pros: This program is highly convenient to use, it seems that it was made by someone who actually looks at pictures! I love the features like fullscreen and slideshow mode and the convenient function keys that allow you to easily control the program via the keyboard. It has a lot of other various features and functionality that come in handy also.

Cons: Well, the only thing I really wish for is that you could zoom in and out (and move around) via the function keys while in slideshow mode (that is, random mode where key presses / mouse clicks make it go to the next picture).
