If you browse the iTunes Store for iPhone and iPod Touch games, you've probably noticed there is no shortage of Tower Defense titles. It's probably because this genre seems to be a natural fit for the touch screen interface. I decided to put together a collection of my favorite Tower Defense games (all rated highly), just in case you've been looking for a new time-waster or just want to sample what Tower Defense is all about.
Though the backstories and graphics may be different, tower-defense games all have the same basic schtick: stop the bad guys from getting to the goal by destroying them with strategically placed defensive units. There are usually different types of units to choose from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and often upgradable for stronger defense.
This collection of five Tower Defense games includes a little bit of everything: the head-swimmingly challenging GeoDefense Swarm; the open-field fun of Fieldrunners; the 3D planet-spinning gameplay of Star Defense; the unique river assault theme of 7 Cities; and the interesting moving skeleton units of Dungeon Defense. One word of warning: once you get bitten by the tower defense bug, you may not stop until you've tried them all!
