World Cup soccer on the iPhone

The World Cup tournament is now down to the final eight. In the U.S., where soccer mostly flies under the radar, the success of the USA team brought out a huge number of fans, many of which probably now have a new appreciation for soccer. With the U.S. out of the running, and only eight teams left, it will be sad to see the most popular tournament in the world come to an end.

With that in mind, I've rounded up the best soccer games for iPhone so you can continue the tournament virtually, wherever you are. I originally wanted to write this story when the tournament was just getting underway, but a big video game soccer franchise had a delayed release for their iPhone version in the iTunes store. Konami's PES 2010 was released today and it was mostly worth the wait.

Along with PES 2010, I included Soccer Superstars 2010, a cartoon-like soccer game for the more casual gamer; X2 Soccer 2010, for good gameplay and realistic weather conditions; FIFA World Cup 2010, a fast-paced soccer experience with all the teams and players you love; and Real Soccer 2010, a fun game with an interesting mode that lets you play as a single player and level-up as you progress through a season.
