QuickLaunch ($4.99) isn't for everyone--just those who want to incrementally save time opening apps and media. You assign apps, photos, Web sites, and so on to a list that pops up when you press the convenience key you associated with the app. Pretty soon, you'll be quickly placing a call, playing a video, or composing a text from any screen just by calling up QuickLaunch.

FreeTips for BlackBerry

There are much more visually appealing tip calculators on the market for BlackBerry, but do you really need slick graphics to execute basic computations? Save your money and let the no-cost FreeTips control the helm of your dining gratuities. It's text-only, but it will split your total bill among diners and calculate how much you each owe, including tip. FreeTips also remembers your tax and tipping rates between sessions, which we expect in a tipping app, but it is nevertheless a nice touch.

If you can't say no to discounts, look into Cellfire's mobile coupons application. The deals include local restaurants and retail services in the U.S., as well as national chains. A clippings feature digitally earmarks coupons for later use. Unfortunately, Cellfire is good only if your shopping habits mirror the offerings.
