Music

Before it was a phone it was our own personal music library. Whether you want to browse music or stream radio stations, these apps will help expand that library and discover new music you otherwise may never encounter.

  • Pandora Radio

    Pandora Radio

A free, personalized, Web-radio app that taps into the Music Genome Project, Pandora plays music selections similar to the user's input based on community suggestions. Listeners can upvote or downvote songs, and that info will then be taken into account for future selections.

The service is free and works surprisingly well in term of choosing songs. Create customizable playlists or choose from the many that are offered by the service from other users or advertisers. Pandora plays advertisements now and then for its free listeners. Users can also upgrade to Pandora One for an ad-free experience that will be available across any platform that offers Pandora. A quick way to access old and new music makes it a classic choice for the iPhone.

  • Rdio

    Rdio

If you forked over the premium price for an Rdio account, then the iPhone app is something you need to get to get most bang for your bucks. A great way to discover new music, Rdio allows you to search songs, artists, albums or even follow other users and hear what they're listening to. The app also syncs songs to your iPhone for those moments when data service is not available. That offline feature sets it apart from other streaming radio services that requires a constant connection.
