GOM Media Player
VLC Media Player is aways the most popular free video player on Download.com, and to be sure, it's a great one, but our pick this for 2012 is the slightly less popular GOM. You can't go wrong with either pick (and both are now bundled with search opt-outs) but GOM's video playback seems a bit faster to load and tighter overall these days. VLC provides more options for playing music, but for videos, GOM is our pick for 2012.

A solid one-stop shop for converting to and fro a shipload of file formats, Format Factory is not only for video conversion--it handles most of the common audio use cases as well. A friendly interface, speedy performance, broad format coverage ... what's not to like?
