It's not unusual for security programs to report back to their publishers on definition file performance. Microsoft is the only one that lets you toggle how invasive the scan is, and it's the only one that gave theirs a proprietary name: SpyNet.
No, really: SpyNet. It doesn't really inspire confidence, especially for a brand-new security program.
