Screen capture

Freeware: CamStudio
Replaces: Camtasia Studio
You save: $300

CamStudio isn't perfect by a long shot, but if you're scrappy and open to reading tutorials, you'll find a free way to take good-quality AVI and SWF recordings of your screen. The beta build remains somewhat buggy, and CamStudio is lean on options, but if you only need to blast out basic demos and tutorials of your own, CamStudio is a real find.

Jing Project, a Camtasia sibling, can also record the screen for free and throws in 2GB of storage and 2GB of data transfer per month on Screencast.com. However, anything beyond that will come with a price tag--about $7 a month or $70 a year for 25GB storage. You'll still be able to store videos locally and on your FTP server for free.
