Change the scan settings
You're not stuck with AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition's default scan settings. Beneath the buttons to scan the whole computer or certain folders is a link to configure the settings. You won't be able to scan for rootkits in the freeware, but you can overlook tracking cookies and turn on scanning for media files. Just remember to save the new settings.
