Anyone who uses the Web for a while knows that login information starts to pile up quickly. With online e-mail accounts, login information for online banking, and countless forums, most users start to use the same passwords for everything. It's pretty easy to see how this is a bad security practice.

Fortunately, you can download 1Password, which remembers all your passwords so you don't have to. Simply come up with a secure master password and then train 1Password to log in to sites for you. It integrates seamlessly with Apple's Mac OS X Keychain and generates complex passwords for you, making it impossible for anyone to crack your code. What's more, you can use 1Password's Go Fill option to automatically login to your favorite sites (think of it as super secure bookmarks) to get you where you want to be quickly.

You can organize your software licenses all in one section, and you can access 1Password from other computers, as well as sync it with your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad--and the app can now integrate closely with the free Dropbox service, for "syncing to the cloud." An easy-to-use Sync Conflict Resolver helps you manage differences in data between multiple devices. Overall, if you have a lot of logins for several Web sites, 1Password is the best software available to keep your logins secure without having to remember tons of passwords.

"Don't go on the web without it!"

December 13, 2010

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

Almost automatic to use and keep up to date. Allows me to have thousands of long, random, unique and very secure passwords for the many sites that require a login, and I only have to remember the one password for 1Password.

Cons

Though very easy to use, keeping the keychain organized is sometimes not intuitive.

Summary

Without 1Password I would be hesitant to go out into the wicked world of the web, and I would not feel safe in leaving my router connected (even with its firewall and the built-in system firewall). Anything of even the slightest sensitivity is easily protected, particularly with the improvements in 1Password of the past two years.

"Great product for the Mac and the iPhone"

December 12, 2010  |  By TomWolsky

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

Must have for the Mac

Cons

None that I can find.

Summary

This is a great product, perhaps the most useful and important on my iPhone, which syncs with 1Password on the Mac. The two together make this an essential tool. There is so much that needs to be secure these days, so many sites that need logins, identity information, credit card and bank information that you need to work and purchase and pay bills on the web, and of course serial numbers for all the software you own. The serial number for your software is what you bought. Without it your software is worthless. It is so important to protect that and have it securely accessible. 1Password is great, and not just for logins, but for far more, for everything in your digital life.

"The best program for saving, using different passwords."

December 11, 2010  |  By caroden_dotmac

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

Absolutely the BEST program I have ever installed and used on any of my computers.
Easy to save and use any of your different passwords you conjure up.

Cons

Haven't found any problems since I originally installed this program. So far it seems flawless.

Summary

Get it, use it. The BEST password generating, using and saving program ever invented for your computer.

"Worth every penny"

December 10, 2010  |  By BeamMeUpJC

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

Easy to use; updated often; comprehensive; works just the way it should; I love how it offers to remember login info for new sites I visit so I don't have to remember to go add them later

Cons

Hard to think of any, except maybe Chrome integration could be better, but they're working on that

Summary

I can honestly say this is one of my most-used pieces of software on my Mac. It not only stores my 100+ internet logins/passwords, but my software serial #s, credit card numbers, insurance info and the like. I love that it can automatically generate secure passwords, which it then remembers for me so I don't have to. But for me the feature that blows the rest away is browser integration. They have add-ons/extensions for Chrome, Safari and Firefox which, when installed, allow you to login to sites with a couple of clicks instead of a lot of typing or copy/pasting. Saves me heaps of time. Plus the developers are constantly releasing updates, so you know they're working hard. I can't recommend this enough.

"Easy, one-place solution to password security problems."

December 08, 2010  |  By eiscee

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

I like the integration with the browser, and the automatic generation of complex passwords.

Cons

A bit cumbersome having to type in my master password all the time. Would rather be able to use a short form, or pin number. I recognize this would defeat the purpose. A very minor gripe.

Pros

Ease of use, reliability, unequaled support.

Cons

There is nothing I would list as negative.

1Password is the type of application that should be mandatory for all PC and Mac users. One can now assign individual passwords to each application thereby reducing the risk of security lapses.

"It's great."

December 07, 2010  |  By dogsand

 |  Version: 1Password 3.5.2

Pros

As one of the leading Mac magazines said, 'when it comes to password organizers, there is 1Password and all the rest.' That about sums it up.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve. There are occasional problems, as you would expect from any software program, but they are resolved quickly.

Summary

1Password is safe, secure and reliable. It automatically enters your passwords and login names when asked for. The program automatically syncs with Dropbox.com, computers/laptops and iPhones, keeping all the info the same. Customer support is great. The program can generate passwords for you, ensuring a high level of security, if desired.

1Password keeps track of software licenses, hardware serial numbers, credit card and bank card information, social security numbers, and account numbers of all kinds. With its notes field, you can add any information you want.

Customer support is terrific.

Bottom line: It's worth the money and makes your life easier.

No more spreadsheets to keep track of passwords!
