Fat Thursday
If you're looking for the hedonistic celebration known as
Mardi Gras, you're a bit late. Last Tuesday marked the end of the
Mardi Gras season, which is followed by the long, painful period
of Lent (for practicing Christians). Since I didn't get a chance
to visit New Orleans or Rio de Janeiro this year, I'll use my
trusty Thursday newsletter to exorcise all my amoral and
destructive demons. Find the most despicable and self-indulgent
games from the Download.com library in this week's
High Five.
On the other side of the emotional spectrum, casual-games expert
Karen uses the quickly approaching Valentine's Day as a chance
to feature all her sweetie's favorite games. Awwwwww! Feel the
love in this week's
Play Nice. Next up, in honor of the European
launch of World of Warcraft,
Maps, Mods, & Skins features
tools and movies from the popular MMORPG. Finally,
On the GameSpot has an in-depth review of the anticipated RPG sequel
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Game
on!
GAME OF THE WEEK: Creatrix
This excellent and free puzzle game is one of the finalists in
the 2005 Independent Games Festival awards, and it combines
puzzle, building, and fighting elements in a very intriguing
way. The board looks like a dual Tetris setup, but instead of
fitting blocks together, you assemble devices that attack your
opponent and fill his or her board. The complexity involved
requires some learning and practice, but the effort is well
worth it.
