Version: 100% Free Chess Board Game for Windows 7.02
"BEWARE! THIS PROGRAM IS A DELIBERATE CAN OF WORMS!"
Cons: This company is deceptive and DOES NOT tell you before you download, that it can only be installed and played along with and after tons of spyware and adware are installed on your computer.
Yet even more UNETHICAL, this software is designed to make it very difficult to uninstall it. If you have trouble Microsoft will help you.
Dreamquest should not be allowed to distribute their "software" anywhere,
and I have no idea how CNET allows this garbage on their great website.
Note: If you want to play chess, without being trapped or duped, check out Pawn right here on CNET. I downloaded it and have been using it without incident, and the engine is intelligent.

Version: 100% Free Chess Board Game for Windows 7.02
"Good but could use some improvements"
Pros: Game is great for beginners since you can highlight a piece and the software shows you where all the piece can move. Has a hint/suggestion button. Graphics clear and easy to see.
Cons: All of the "extras" that are advertised are not included in the free version. Just about everytime you push a menu button/option, an ad comes up and says that option is only available in the upgrade. Also, I noticed a flaw in the software: when you get a pawn all the way across the board, you are given the choice of replacing the pawn with a queen, rook, knight or bishop. About 50% of the times I choose queen (usually mine has been captured prior ;-(), I am given a rook. This does not occur when you choose the other pieces. Another flaw: the game is called a draw if at the end, no pieces have been captured within so many moves (25 I think). I have counted--if you are winning against the computer, the game is called well before 25 moves have been taken.

Pros: nice interface, everything is else is just too annoying to use due to it all being locked
Cons: is there anything more annoying then getting half way through a game only to have it refuse to let you move your knight? im not sure there is- this happened so many items ive basically got rid and will never use again... avoid like the plague!
